Nippon Steel NS-03Hi E6013 Lime-Titania Electrode

Description

Lime-titania electrode for thin and medium plate structures

The Nippon Steel NS-03Hi is a lime-titania type covered electrode classified JIS Z 3211 E4303-U and AWS A5.1 E6013, for mild steel and 490 to 550 MPa high tensile strength steel. The manufacturer describes it as a high-efficiency electrode for complicated structures in thin and medium-thick plate.

It produces a small amount of fume and is highly resistant to moisture absorption. The arc is sharp, concentrated and easy to restrike, the slag is easy to remove, and the electrode can deposit a smooth, long bead even in inclined positions.

Where a lime-titania electrode makes sense

Lime-titania (E4303) coatings sit between rutile and basic types in Japanese practice: they are as easy to handle as a rutile electrode but give a more fluid slag and sound deposits in position. NS-03Hi suits light structural steelwork, brackets, frames and general fabrication where appearance, low fume and fast restriking matter more than low-hydrogen performance. For thick, restrained or high-strength joints, a low-hydrogen electrode such as L-55 is the better choice.

Related electrodes in the same handbook table

The attached handbook pages also cover S-03 and S-03Z (lime-titania, E6013) and the ilmenite types A-17, A-10 and A-14 (E6019). Ask if you need one of these instead.

As a general point, E6013-type electrodes are not intended for joints that need controlled hydrogen or guaranteed low-temperature impact values, so check the welding procedure specification before substituting one for a low-hydrogen grade. The published Charpy value of 100 J at 0 °C is typical, not a guaranteed minimum.

About brand

Nippon Steel Welding & Engineering is a Japanese maker of welding consumables, welding machines and plasma equipment, headquartered in Tokyo. The current company was formed on July 1, 2002 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nippon Steel Corporation, with roots in welding rod makers established as early as 1934. It sells its welding materials under the WELDREAM brand.

Welding materials from Nippon Steel Welding & Engineering

The consumables program covers flux-cored wires, covered electrodes, submerged arc wire and flux combinations, and solid MIG/MAG and TIG wires. The company states that it is the first and only Japanese manufacturer to mass-produce seamless flux-cored wire, made since 1981, which it recommends for low-temperature and high-tensile applications. It also produces plasma welding and cutting equipment and metal tube optical fibre cables.

Ordering Nippon Steel welding consumables: what we need

Give the product name, for example SF-1, the classification in your procedure, the wire diameter and spool or package, and the quantity. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, checks the grade against the manufacturer's catalogue page and can provide the datasheet and the certificates issued with the order on request.
