Lovato SM1P0650 4-6.5 A Motor Protection Circuit Breaker
Description
Motor protection for loads from 4 to 6.5 A in one device
Where a motor feeder needs a switch, overload protection and short-circuit protection in one place, the three-pole SM1P0650 from the Lovato Electric SM1 range does all three; the overload dial adjusts over 4-6.5 A.
Rated current In is 6.5 A; the thermal release adjusts 4-6.5 A and the magnetic release trips at 13 x In. Breaking capacity values are listed as 100 kA at 400 V, 100 kA at 440 V and 3 kA at 690 V. The tripping class is 10A.

Choosing the setting range
Choose the range so the nameplate current sits inside 4-6.5 A, ideally in the middle of the dial where adjustment is most accurate. Check the prospective short-circuit level at the panel against the Icu table above.
At 400 V the breaking capacity is 100 kA (Icu) and 100 kA (Ics). Compare that with the fault level at your board, and look at the 440 V to 690 V columns where the figures can drop sharply.
Applications and accessories
In pump, fan and compressor starters the breaker sits upstream of a contactor, and rigid connection kits link the two into a compact assembly. Auxiliary and signalling contacts, shunt and undervoltage releases and door-coupling handles are accessories for the series.
Mounting is on a 35 mm DIN rail or with screws, any position within the allowed range, and the unit weighs 350 g. Use the dissipation figure (0.75 W to 1.99 W per pole) in thermal calculations.

About brand
Lovato Electric is the Italian manufacturer of low-voltage electrical components for industrial automation and power distribution: contactors, motor protection circuit breakers, soft starters, variable speed drives, power factor controllers, transfer switch and generator controllers, and energy meters. It was founded in Bergamo in 1922 and has been run by the same family for four generations. Its headquarters is in Gorle, near Bergamo, and it celebrated its centenary in 2022.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Lovato motor control, drives and power management products, and supply them to panel builders, contractors and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC by order code.

Lovato order codes describe the product. On a contactor such as BF0910A230, "BF09" is the frame and rated current (9 A in AC-3), "10" is the built-in auxiliary contact (one normally open), "A" means an AC coil and "230" is the coil voltage. The coil voltage must match the control circuit exactly, so it is the most common detail to check when replacing one. For motors, a soft starter limits the inrush current at start and stop, while a variable speed drive controls the speed continuously and saves energy on pumps and fans that do not need full flow all the time.
Where Lovato products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Lovato components are built into motor control centres, pump and HVAC panels, capacitor banks for power factor correction, generator and ATS panels, and machine control panels for industry, water and buildings.
