Endress+Hauser FMR63B Micropilot Hygienic Radar Level Sensor

Description

Endress+Hauser FMR63B hygienic 80 GHz radar for liquids

The Endress+Hauser FMR63B is a Micropilot free-space radar for continuous, non-contact level measurement of liquids in hygienic applications. It uses an approx. 80 GHz FMCW radar, a 4-20 mA HART output, and an antenna that is flush with the process connection: PTFE cladded in 50 mm or 80 mm, PEEK cladded in 20 mm or 40 mm, or an integrated 20 mm PEEK antenna on an M24 thread. The process connection is hygienic, for example Tri-Clamp ISO 2852, DIN 11851 slotted nut, NEUMO BioControl or Varivent. The FMR63B reaches 80 m, handles –40 to +200 °C and –1 to 25 bar, and is rated for SIL 2, or SIL 3 with redundancy.

Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, supplies the FMR63B in Oman and the GCC for food, beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical and water utilities. This page covers the decoded options of the FMR63B, range data by antenna, and the details we need for a quotation.

Choosing the FMR63B antenna and connection

The FMR63B has no protruding antenna horn, which makes it easy to clean. Choose the antenna by tank size and available fitting. The PTFE 80 mm antenna has a tight 3 degree beam and the longest range, which suits tall storage tanks and silos for liquids. The PTFE 50 mm antenna on a 2 in Tri-Clamp or DIN 11851 DN50 slotted nut is the standard choice for mid-size tanks. For small fittings, PEEK cladded 20 mm with NEUMO BioControl D25 reaches 10 m, and PEEK 40 mm with BioControl D50 or a Varivent N tube reaches 22 m. The integrated PEEK 20 mm on an M24 thread is for compact tanks, with seals in FKM, EPDM or FFKM chosen by your cleaning chemicals.

Range depends on the media group: in a calm storage tank the PTFE 80 mm antenna reaches 22 m for A0 (εr 1.2 to 1.4), 40 m for A, 50 m for B, 65 m for C and 80 m for D (water-based liquids above εr 10). If you do not know the dielectric constant, the maker advises assuming group B.

Where the FMR63B fits and related Micropilot sensors

The FMR63B is the premium hygienic radar in the Micropilot B-series. The FMR43 is a smaller hygienic sensor for tanks up to 15 m, while the FMR60B (threaded) and FMR62B (flanged, high pressure and temperature) serve industrial liquids. For solids, the FMR66B is the option. In plant integration, the FMR63B supplies a HART signal to the PLC or DCS, and Heartbeat Technology provides verification reports without removing the sensor, which fits validated cleaning and sterilization schedules.

FMR63B selection and ordering checklist

  • Product, dielectric constant or media group, and foaming or condensation tendency.
  • Tank height, surface condition and fixtures in the beam.
  • Hygienic connection type, size and pressure class; antenna material.
  • Cleaning cycle: CIP and SIP temperatures, pressures and chemicals, and the matching seal.
  • Surface finish or ASME BPE requirement and material certificates.
  • Housing, display, Bluetooth and cable entry.
  • Hazardous-area approval and SIL level.

FMR63B installation, commissioning and maintenance

Fit the FMR63B in a nozzle or tank fitting that keeps the antenna face aligned with the vessel axis, and keep struts, coils and agitator blades out of the beam. The cladded antennas are flush, so product film and condensation are easily removed by normal cleaning. Commission through the display, HART, or SmartBlue within a Bluetooth range of up to 25 m, and record an interference map when the tank is partly filled. For periodic proof, use Heartbeat Technology and the Radar Accuracy Index to extend calibration intervals, and check gaskets at each planned change-over.

FMR63B applications in Oman and the GCC

In Oman and the GCC the FMR63B is used in dairy and juice plants, bottling and beverage lines, pharmaceutical water and purified-water loops, and desalination post-treatment and potable water storage where hygienic design is requested. Strong sunlight on outdoor tanks and high humidity are common, and the sealed IP66/68 housing copes with both. Non-contact radar avoids probes that foul in sticky products.

Where Endress+Hauser instruments are used

In Oman and the GCC, Endress+Hauser instruments are common in oil and gas production and processing, refineries and petrochemicals, desalination and water networks, wastewater treatment, power plants and food and beverage plants. Coriolis meters measure hydrocarbon and chemical flows, electromagnetic meters cover water and wastewater, radar transmitters handle tank and silo level, and Liquiline analysers monitor water quality. Proline 300 and 500 flowmeters include Heartbeat Technology for in-situ verification, which reduces the need to remove a meter for checks.

Ordering Endress+Hauser instruments: what we need

The order code on the nameplate (for example PMP71-1QA1S11RDADU) defines every option: measuring range, process connection, materials, output, approvals and display. Send it with the serial number; Endress+Hauser can retrieve the original configuration from the serial number. For a new instrument add the medium, operating and design pressure and temperature, range, line size or tank geometry, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Modbus) and the hazardous-area approval required. Older models such as Promass 80/83 or Micropilot M are replaced by current Proline or 80 GHz Micropilot devices.
