Invertek Drives Optidrive Eco Pump Variable Speed Drive

Description

Drive built for pumping and water applications

The Invertek Drives Optidrive Eco Pump is a variable frequency drive for centrifugal pumps in water supply, pressure boosting, irrigation, wastewater and process systems. It shares the hardware of the Eco family, so it covers 0.75 to 250 kW (1 to 400 HP) on 200 to 600 V supplies, but its software is tuned for pumps. A built-in PLC function, multi-pump control without an external controller, pump prime with burst-pipe detection, blockage detection and cleaning, and operating curve detection are all described in the Eco Pump brochure.

The data below is taken from the Invertek Drives Optidrive Eco user guide and the Eco Pump brochure.

Pump control functions

Multi-pump control lets one drive manage a small group of pumps, staging them on and off to match demand, without a separate controller. Pump prime and burst-pipe detection monitor the start of the pumping cycle, so the drive can recognise when a pipe has failed to fill. Blockage detection identifies a rise in load that suggests a blocked impeller, and the brochure describes a cleaning function for the same condition. Operating curve detection compares the actual power against an expected pump curve to detect problems like dry running or restricted flow.

Energy savings and installation

Matching pump speed to demand rather than throttling with a valve cuts energy use and mechanical stress on pipes and seals. The drive includes an internal EMC filter and a low-harmonic design to EN 61000-3-12, which helps on supplies shared with other equipment. IP20, IP55, IP66 outdoor and IP66 with disconnect enclosures cover indoor plant rooms as well as pump stations and outdoor installations. The environmental limits follow the Eco user guide, including derating at higher temperature and altitude. When selecting a size, base it on the pump motor full-load current, and consider the cable length to submersible or remote motors, because long cables may need an output filter. The pump hydraulic duty, static head and flow range should be established before the drive control strategy is chosen.

About brand

Invertek Drives is a British manufacturer of variable frequency drives, founded in 1998 and headquartered in Welshpool, Powys, Wales. Its Optidrive range of AC drives is sold in more than 80 countries for motor control in HVAC, pumping and industrial machinery. In 2019 Sumitomo Heavy Industries bought Invertek for about £100 million.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Invertek drives for pumps, fans and machines in Oman and the GCC.

Milestones

  • 1998: Invertek Drives is founded.
  • 2019: Sumitomo Heavy Industries acquires Invertek.

Invertek Drives product series

The Optidrive E3 range includes IP20 cabinet drives, IP66 washdown drives and single phase output drives for single phase motors. The Optidrive P2 is an industrial vector drive for more demanding loads.

The Optidrive Eco family includes HVAC variable speed drives with building management communication and pump drives with pump-specific functions.

Drives are sized by motor current, not only kW, and the supply voltage sets the model. IP66 drives can be mounted near the motor without a cabinet, while IP20 drives go inside panels. Eco drives include pump and fan functions such as PID control, sleep and fire mode.

Using a drive on fans and pumps saves energy because power falls sharply as speed is reduced.

Where Invertek drives are used

Pumps, fans and compressors, HVAC in buildings, conveyors and general machinery.
