Cortem EJBE-EJBXE Ex de Control and Distribution Boards

Description

Ex de control and distribution boards combining flameproof and increased-safety enclosures

The Cortem EJBE and EJBXE series are control, monitoring and distribution boards in Ex de execution. Switches, inverters, fuses, relays and similar components sit in an Ex d flameproof enclosure, while the auxiliary terminal block is housed in an Ex e increased-safety enclosure. EJBE boards pair an aluminium EJB enclosure with a stainless steel CTB terminal enclosure; EJBXE boards use the stainless steel EJBX enclosure, giving an all-stainless structure for marine and other highly corrosive sites.

The two enclosures are linked mechanically by a flange and electrically by Cortem TP sealed bushings in nickel-plated brass or stainless steel, with a flat silicone gasket keeping IP66 between them. Lids of the Ex d enclosure can carry a tempered glass window to read instruments. A factory-sealed version is available on request, so cable entries are already protected against gas and flame propagation and no external sealing fitting is needed near the equipment.

Options and what to confirm before ordering

Cortem lists a RAL 2004 anti-condensation interior coating, external colours, rectangular lid windows, internal mounting plates (aluminium, galvanised steel or stainless steel), terminal rails, removable gland plates, a padlocking system and different certified sealed bushings. Terminals must come from the approved list of Cabur, Phoenix, ABB Entrelec, Wago or Weidmuller, and Ex i versions carry blue terminals. The Ex d lid drilling limits depend on the size (for example 8 to 12 holes for EJBE-3 and 60 for EJBE-6 solid lid), and holes must be made by Cortem or an ATEX-notified partner.

Provide the component list, total dissipated power and ambient temperature so the right size and temperature class can be confirmed, together with the number and size of cable entries and whether a factory-sealed version is wanted.

About brand

Cortem is an Italian manufacturer of electrical equipment for environments with a risk of explosion and fire. Cortem S.p.A., the main company of Cortem Group, was founded in 1968 in Villesse, Italy, and the group today supplies industrial plants, offshore platforms, refineries and shipyards with certified products for hazardous areas.

Explosion-protected product range

The catalogue covers junction boxes in aluminium, stainless steel and GRP, control and command stations, metal cable glands and connectors, plugs and sockets, LED floodlights, linear and high-bay luminaires, hand lamps, signalling and obstruction lights, and weatherproof series equipment. Products are certified to ATEX and IECEx, with UKEX and other schemes available according to the model.

Applications and documentation

Typical sectors named by the company include oil and gas, chemical and pharmaceutical plants, mining, shipbuilding and traditional and green energy. Each product family has a datasheet with the marking, zones, temperature classes and certificate numbers, so the equipment can be matched to a hazardous area classification before ordering.

Sourcing through Seven Star LLC

Seven Star LLC supplies Cortem products to customers in Oman and the GCC and quotes against the model code, zone and certificate requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an EJBE control board?
An Ex d aluminium enclosure for switchgear joined to an Ex e stainless steel terminal enclosure by sealed bushings.
How does EJBXE differ from EJBE?
EJBXE uses the 316L stainless steel EJBX Ex d enclosure, so the whole board is stainless steel.
Can it be used with hydrogen?
The datasheet states gas group IIB+H2 and that the equipment can be used in an atmosphere with hydrogen.
What are the maximum electrical ratings?
Rated voltage up to 690 Vac and rated current 50 A at 50-60 Hz for the Ex d enclosure.
Is a factory-sealed version available?
Yes, on request; entries are sealed at the factory so no external sealing fitting is needed.
