Cortem CMBSP07 Ex GRP Plugs and Sockets 16 A to 125 A

Description

Corrosion-resistant GRP Ex plugs and sockets with interlocked switch-disconnector

The Cortem CMBSP07 series are increased-safety plugs and sockets in glass-fibre reinforced polyester and nylon, rated 16 A, 32 A, 63 A and 125 A with 3, 4 or 5 poles for gas group IIC in Zones 1, 2, 21 and 22. An interlocked switch-disconnector means the plug can only be withdrawn after the switch is turned off and the switch can only be turned on after the plug is correctly inserted. A cable gland is included in the scope.

The plug pin has a spring-loaded elastic element that makes the contacts self-cleaning, keeps contact and insertion resistance low, limits temperature rise and reduces insertion and extraction force. GRP construction suits coastal, offshore and chemical sites where aluminium sockets corrode, and the antistatic socket enclosure resists 7 J impact.

Cable entries and ordering code

Each socket has two inlets and the plug one; the table shows the thread and cable outside diameters from the datasheet.

Rating Socket inlet thread Socket cable OD (mm) Plug cable OD (mm) Wire (mm2)
16 A 2 x M25x1.5 8 to 14 16A/3: 7 to 16; 16A/4 and 5: 9 to 19 2.5 to 4
32 A 2 x M40x1.5 15 to 26 12 to 28 6
63 A 2 x M50x1.5 19 to 36 19 to 28 16
125 A 2 x M63x1.5 37 to 44 34 to 53 35.5

The code reads CMBSP07-, then the current (16, 32, 63 or 125), the number of poles (2P, 3P for 2P+PE or 1P+N+PE, 4P for 3P+PE, 5P for 3P+N+PE), the model letter (T plug, Z socket, M panel-mount socket for 16 A and 32 A) and the voltage code from DC25 to AC690. The clock position and colour of the key follow the voltage, for example blue at 200-250 V, red at 380-415 V and black at 480-500 V.

What to confirm before ordering

State the rated current, number of poles, voltage and frequency, whether a plug, socket or panel-mount socket is needed, the temperature class for the ambient, and the cable diameter so the included gland matches. The datasheet advises reading the certificate table for the ambient limit above +50 °C. If a metal, aluminium Ex d-e socket is preferred, see the PYN and SPYN series from the same manufacturer.

About brand

Cortem is an Italian manufacturer of electrical equipment for environments with a risk of explosion and fire. Cortem S.p.A., the main company of Cortem Group, was founded in 1968 in Villesse, Italy, and the group today supplies industrial plants, offshore platforms, refineries and shipyards with certified products for hazardous areas.

Explosion-protected product range

The catalogue covers junction boxes in aluminium, stainless steel and GRP, control and command stations, metal cable glands and connectors, plugs and sockets, LED floodlights, linear and high-bay luminaires, hand lamps, signalling and obstruction lights, and weatherproof series equipment. Products are certified to ATEX and IECEx, with UKEX and other schemes available according to the model.

Applications and documentation

Typical sectors named by the company include oil and gas, chemical and pharmaceutical plants, mining, shipbuilding and traditional and green energy. Each product family has a datasheet with the marking, zones, temperature classes and certificate numbers, so the equipment can be matched to a hazardous area classification before ordering.

Sourcing through Seven Star LLC

Seven Star LLC supplies Cortem products to customers in Oman and the GCC and quotes against the model code, zone and certificate requirement.
