Cortem CMD Ex e Fibreglass Control and Signalling Station

Description

Fibreglass Ex e control stations for gas group IIC and Zones 1, 2, 21, 22

The Cortem CMD is a command and monitoring station in black antistatic glass-fibre reinforced polyester, built to carry pushbuttons, selector switches, key switches, emergency stops and indicator lights in hazardous areas. Cortem describes a design that keeps the overall size small while remaining resistant and simple to install, and the station can be mounted on the machine or remotely, for example to control lighting or motor circuits in any industrial application. Three casing sizes are available, with standard or customised arrangements.

Because the enclosure is polyester rather than metal, the CMD suits corrosive offshore, coastal and chemical sites where aluminium or painted steel boxes age quickly, and the marking covers gas group IIC, which includes hydrogen.

The datasheet lists two component types. The contact block (code HL0101) is rated 220-250 Vac / 16 A, 380 Vac / 10 A and 415 Vac / 10 A, or 24 Vdc / 0.4 A, 60 Vdc / 0.9 A, 110 Vdc / 1.6 A and 220 Vdc / 0.25 A, with connection up to 2.5 mm2, 2 kV impulse withstand, pollution degree 3 and 1 kA conditional short-circuit current. The LED indicator light (code HL0102) is offered for 12-36 Vac/dc, 48-127 Vac/dc, 220-415 Vac and 220-250 Vdc, with power consumption up to 1 W, 50/60 Hz and a stated lifespan of 105 hours.

How to decode the CMD order code

The code starts with CMD, then the body type (1, 2 or 3) and the position of the hole (T top or B bottom for 20.5 mm, Y or N for the 25.5 mm variant), followed by one operator code per position. Examples from the datasheet: CMD-1TV2 is a type 1 station with one 20.5 mm hole and a green pushbutton with 1NC contact; CMD-3NR9V91R is a type 3 station with a red LED indicator, a green 12-36 V indicator and a start-stop selector with spring return from START to 0.

Code Meaning
N, R, V, G, I Black, red, green, yellow or white pushbutton
1 to 5 Contact assembly 1NO, 1NC, 1NO+1NC, 2NO, 2NC
V, R, G, B, I Green, red, yellow, blue or colourless indicator
9, 8, 7, 6 LED indicator 12-36 Vac/dc, 48-127 Vac/dc, 220-415 Vac, 220-250 Vdc
BL, RL, VL, GL, IL Illuminated pushbutton colours
1X, 1R, 1Z, 2I, 1C, 1W Start-stop and multi-position selector switches
D3, D4 Key selectors
F, K Twist-release or key-release emergency stop

Stock stations and what to confirm before ordering

Stock arrangements include CMD-1TF3 (emergency mushroom pushbutton, 1NO+1NC), CMD-1TN3 (black pushbutton), CMD-1TR7 and CMD-1TV7 (indicator lights), CMD-1N2I (double pole switch), CMD-1T1R (run/stop selector), CMD-2YV3R3 (green and red pushbuttons) and CMD-3YV7V3R3 (indicator plus two pushbuttons). Cable glands are NAVP20IXE for 7-12 mm cable or NAVP25IXE for 14-18 mm cable.

Confirm the zone, gas or dust group, temperature class, the coil or lamp voltage, the number of contacts and the cable diameter. Optional extras on request are a brass earthing continuity plate, a breather or drain valve and metal glands.

About brand

Cortem is an Italian manufacturer of electrical equipment for environments with a risk of explosion and fire. Cortem S.p.A., the main company of Cortem Group, was founded in 1968 in Villesse, Italy, and the group today supplies industrial plants, offshore platforms, refineries and shipyards with certified products for hazardous areas.

Explosion-protected product range

The catalogue covers junction boxes in aluminium, stainless steel and GRP, control and command stations, metal cable glands and connectors, plugs and sockets, LED floodlights, linear and high-bay luminaires, hand lamps, signalling and obstruction lights, and weatherproof series equipment. Products are certified to ATEX and IECEx, with UKEX and other schemes available according to the model.

Applications and documentation

Typical sectors named by the company include oil and gas, chemical and pharmaceutical plants, mining, shipbuilding and traditional and green energy. Each product family has a datasheet with the marking, zones, temperature classes and certificate numbers, so the equipment can be matched to a hazardous area classification before ordering.

Sourcing through Seven Star LLC

Seven Star LLC supplies Cortem products to customers in Oman and the GCC and quotes against the model code, zone and certificate requirement.
