GF Type 546 Pro Linear Thermoplastic Ball Valve

Description

Linear-characteristic thermoplastic ball valve for control loops and chemical lines

The GF Type 546 Pro linear ball valve from Georg Fischer Piping Systems combines a true union ball valve body with a specially shaped ball that gives a linear flow characteristic across the whole opening angle, so one valve can both isolate and regulate. GF lists chemical processing, life sciences, microelectronics, measurement and control, water treatment, food and beverage and shipbuilding as target applications, for neutral and aggressive liquid media. The valve has a lockable ergonomic lever that doubles as a service tool for the union bushings, integrated fixation and spacers for alignment, a Data Matrix code for traceability, and a modular interface for manual, electric or pneumatic actuation.

Flow capacity and ordering codes

Size Kv100 l/min Kv100 m3/h
DN15 / d20 90 5
DN20 / d25 166 10
DN25 / d32 235 14
DN32 / d40 417 25
DN40 / d50 626 38
DN50 / d63 781 47

Ordering codes are by material, size and elastomer. For PVC-U with solvent cement sockets (metric) the EPDM codes run 161 546 951 (d20) to 161 546 956 (d63) and the FKM codes 161 546 961 to 161 546 966; PVC-C versions use 163 546 951 to 956 (EPDM) and 163 546 961 to 966 (FKM); ABS versions run 169 546 701 to 707. The datasheet lists the PP-H, PVDF, flange, threaded and spigot variants in full.

Selection and what to confirm before ordering

Select the body material for chemical resistance and temperature (GF points to its ChemRes tool), the gasket for the medium, the end connection standard and whether a manual lever or an actuator is needed; allow about twice the listed operating torque when sizing an actuator. The datasheet notes the valve is only conditionally suitable for media with solids and that such use needs prior clarification with GF. See the Georg Fischer sensors on this site, for example the Signet 8550-1 flow transmitter, and other valves under Control Valves.

About brand

Georg Fischer, founded in 1802 and based in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, is known to plant engineers for piping systems and for the Signet line of flow and analytical instruments that fit into them. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Oman, lists the GF Signet 3-2551 Magmeter insertion electromagnetic flow sensor and the GF Signet 8550-1 flow transmitter.

GF Signet instruments listed here

The 3-2551 Magmeter is an insertion flow sensor: it is mounted through a fitting in the pipe wall, has no moving parts and needs a liquid with some electrical conductivity. The 8550-1 is a flow transmitter that takes the signal from a Signet flow sensor and provides a display and outputs for the control system. Sensor, pipe fitting and transmitter are chosen together, because the fitting sets the insertion depth for a given pipe size and material.

Ordering GF Signet parts: what we need

Copy the manufacturer part number from the label, which normally starts with 3- followed by the model and option digits. Add pipe size, pipe material, the fitting you have, the fluid and its conductivity, sensor body material, output required and cable length. Water treatment, desalination and chemical dosing sites in the GCC often have older Signet transmitters; if a model is no longer produced we ask for the manufacturer's current replacement, which for the 8550 is listed by distributors as the Signet 9900.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes is the GF Type 546 Pro available in?
d20/DN15 to d63/DN50, with a d16/DN10 size listed in the flow data.
Which body materials are offered?
PVC-U, PVC-C, ABS, PP-H and PVDF, with EPDM, FKM or FFKM seals.
What does linear mean for this ball valve?
The ball geometry gives a linear flow characteristic over the whole opening angle, which suits control loops.
What pressure rating applies?
PN10 for ABS and PP-H, PN16 for PVC-U, PVC-C and PVDF, reduced by some connections.
Can it be actuated?
Yes, with manual lever, GF electric and pneumatic actuators, or third-party actuators to EN ISO 5211.
