Bray Series 768 SlurryShield Bidirectional Wafer Slurry Valve
Description
Heavy-duty sleeved wafer valve for mining and process slurries
The Bray Series 768 SlurryShield is a bidirectional slurry valve in a two-piece bolted wafer body of ductile iron, covering NPS 2 to 24 (DN 50 to 600). Twin elastomer sleeves with an encapsulated J-ring and a push-through gate give zero leakage in both directions and a self-cleaning action that prevents build-up, and the full-port design leaves an unobstructed flow path that extends sleeve life and keeps pressure drop low.
Mining is the lead application in the brochure: primary and secondary milling, primary and secondary cyclones, thickeners, filter pumps and presses, process water and tailings, as well as HPAL and POX autoclave and process pumps, power, chemical and pulp and paper. The wafer body fits between existing pipe flanges, which is convenient in tight pump-house pipework.

Protection, flush plate and sleeve options
Upper and lower protective stem covers are standard on all models and increase cycle life in dirty or dusty environments. An optional bottom flush plate with tapped ports allows safe discharge and a flush-water connection. The gate can be specified in a range of corrosion-resistant alloys, and the pressure rating rises from 150 to 232 psi when a 2205 duplex gate is used in sizes up to NPS 18.
Sleeve options printed by Bray are natural rubber, Buna-N and EPDM, each with its own temperature window, so the choice should follow the process medium and temperature. Bray cautions that EPDM exposed continuously to elevated temperature ages prematurely and that frozen media must not be cycled.
768 compared with the other sleeved valves
The 768 is the general wafer choice for NPS 2 to 24. If the line is NPS 2 to 12 at 90 psi, the compact 765 is lighter. If the application needs flanged ends or sizes beyond 24 inches, use the 762, and for pressures above 232 psi use the 767. A handwheel, bevel gear, pneumatic, hydraulic or electric operator can be supplied, with the linear position sensor Bray lists for pneumatic knife gate actuators where continuous feedback is wanted.
| Series | Body | Size and pressure |
|---|---|---|
| 768 (this page) | Ductile iron wafer, Class 150 | NPS 2-24, 150 psi to NPS 16 |
| 765 | Ductile iron wafer, compact | NPS 2-12, 90 psi |
| 762 | Ductile iron or WCB flanged | NPS 3-48, 100 psi with 316 gate |
| 767 | WCB wafer, Class 300 | NPS 3-36, up to 740 psi |
How the Bray Series 768 works
The valve has a body that fits between two pipe flanges and a gate that moves across the flow. Two rubber sleeves sit on each side of the gate. When the gate closes, the sleeves press against it and seal in both directions. The gate pushes the solids out of the way as it moves, so the seal stays clean.
Where the Series 768 is used

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the Series 768
Fit the valve between flanges with the gate free to move. Tighten the bolts evenly. Cycle the valve a few times before the slurry is started. Check the stem covers for damage. Replace the sleeves when the leakage rises.

About brand
Bray valves are a familiar sight on water, HVAC and general process lines, mostly as rubber-lined butterfly valves with an actuator bolted on top. Bray International, founded in 1986 in Houston, USA, makes butterfly valves, ball valves and the pneumatic and electric actuators that drive them. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Bray valves and actuators for plants and building services in Oman, including the Series 30/31 and Series 70 listed here.
Bray valves and actuators listed here
Series 30 and Series 31 are the resilient-seated butterfly valves: Series 30 is the wafer body and Series 31 the lug body. They are used for on/off and throttling duty on water, air and other fluids compatible with the seat. The Series 70 is Bray's electric actuator for quarter-turn valves, ordered by torque size and supply voltage, with on/off or modulating control.
Ordering Bray butterfly valves: what we need
For a valve, send the series, size, wafer or lug body, body, disc and seat materials, flange standard and operator type (lever, gear or actuator). For a Series 70 actuator, send the torque size from the nameplate, voltage, and whether it is on/off or modulating. A nameplate photo covers most of this. GCC water projects often specify the seat and disc materials, so quote them exactly.
