Brand: Böhler Welding
Böhler UV 420 TTR-W Fluoride-Basic Submerged Arc Flux
Description
Fluoride-basic SAW flux for creep-resistant Cr-Mo wires and sub-zero toughness
Böhler UV 420 TTR-W is an agglomerated fluoride-basic flux for submerged arc welding of unalloyed and low-alloyed steels. Böhler Welding describes its metallurgical behaviour as neutral and states that it was designed mainly for multi-pass welding. The flux runs on both AC and DC+, is suitable for the tandem process, and releases its slag very well even in narrow-gap joints. Its main selling point is the phosphorus pick-up, which the data sheet limits to +0.004 %, so that the weld metal keeps the highest strength levels after long post-weld heat treatment and meets stringent toughness requirements at sub-zero temperatures, even after step-cooling treatment.

Wire pairing and where the flux is used
The data sheet recommends the flux in particular with Union S 1 CrMo 2 and Union S 2 CrMo wires on AC, and singles out welding of hydrocrackers with Union S 1 CrMo 2 for the highest mechanical properties, although DC+ can also be used. It also states that the flux is suitable for other wire grades. In practice that makes it a flux for 1.25Cr-0.5Mo and 2.25Cr-1Mo pressure vessels, reactors and boiler components where the weld must survive long stress-relief cycles and still pass impact tests. The same Böhler range includes
for high-strength fine-grained structural steels and for general-purpose structural work.| Related Böhler flux | EN ISO 14174 class | Intended for |
|---|---|---|
| Marathon 543 | S A FB 1 55 DC H5 | 9Cr creep-resistant steels such as P91 and P92 |
| UV 418 TT | S A FB 1 55 AC H5 | Fine-grained structural steels, 2-run procedures |
| UV 400 | S A AB 1 67 AC H5 | Boiler, pipe and structural steels, joining and surfacing |
What to confirm before ordering
Because strength and toughness come from the wire and flux combination, confirm the wire grade, polarity, heat input, required PWHT and impact temperature with your welding procedure. Flux must be redried as stated above and stored dry; packaging sizes and lot certificates should be confirmed at quotation.

About brand
Böhler Welding is the welding consumables brand of voestalpine Böhler Welding, part of the voestalpine group, with a portfolio that covers stick electrodes, TIG rods, solid wires, gas-shielded and self-shielded flux-cored wires and submerged-arc wires and fluxes. The company states more than 100 years of experience. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Böhler Welding consumables and welding machines, including pipeline electrodes, and sources Böhler Welding consumables for fabricators and pipeline contractors.
Böhler Welding product groups
Beyond the consumables above, Böhler Welding lists strip cladding, wire arc additive manufacturing, metal powders, arc spraying cored wires, ceramic weld backing, brazing consumables and welding automation such as orbital welding and collaborative robots. The pipeline range includes cellulosic FOX CEL electrodes and basic vertical-down FOX BVD electrodes for large-diameter line pipe.
Ordering Böhler Welding consumables: what we need
Give the product name, the AWS or EN classification, the diameter and length, and the packaging you need. For pipeline electrodes also state the pipe grade, wall thickness, welding position and whether sour-service test values are required, because the Böhler Welding data sheets note that some test values are available on request.
