Banner T18-2VPLP-Q8 Washdown Retroreflective Sensor
Description
A washdown-ready right-angle retroreflective sensor with M12 connector
The T18-2VPLP-Q8 is a polarized retroreflective member of Banner Engineering’s T18-2 family of epoxy encapsulated right-angle sensors. All T18-2 sensors share one compact 18 mm threaded housing built for wet environments: the electronics are epoxy encapsulated for a redundant seal behind the ultrasonically welded plastic joints, the markings are laser-etched so they survive repeated cleaning, and the exposed surfaces use food-grade plastics. The datasheet states that the chemical compatibility is ECOLAB certified for wash-down duty.
This model has complementary PNP outputs and a 4-pin M12 male quick-disconnect, so it plugs straight into a standard cordset. A bright visible red emitter makes alignment easy, and a green and an amber LED show power, stability and output state.

Built for the wash-down line
Banner designed the T18-2 for the wet, hot and chemical-heavy environments typical of food and beverage plants. The advanced ASIC also makes the sensor resistant to optical and electrical noise, and the operating range of minus 40 to plus 70 degrees C allows use from chillers to hot wash zones. The sensing family spans opposed pairs, retroreflective, polarized retroreflective, diffuse and fixed-field models, so one housing and one cordset can cover most detection tasks on a line.
The datasheet also warns that this device must not be used for personnel protection, because it has no self-checking redundant circuitry.
Variants and ordering notes
Within the polarized retro group the VPLP variants have fixed sensitivity, while the LPC variants (T18-2VPLPC) add a single-turn gain potentiometer for adjustment. NPN versions replace the P with N, for example T18-2VNLP-Q8. Cable versions replace Q8 with 2M or 9M for a 2 m or 9 m cable. Models with a quick-disconnect need a mating cordset ordered separately, and a BRT-84 reflector is the reference target for the stated 6 m range.
Mounting is with the supplied M18 x 1 nut, and the right-angle shape suits tight spaces. Please confirm output polarity, reflector and connector against the specification before ordering.

About brand
Banner Engineering is the American maker of industrial sensors, indicator lights, wireless monitoring and machine safety products. Bob Fayfield founded it in 1966 as a small engineering firm in the Minneapolis area. The company is privately held and still based in Minnesota.
Seven Star LLC lists Banner devices including the Q4X rugged stainless steel laser distance sensor and the K50 Pro Beacon IO-Link multicolor RGB indicator, and supplies Banner sensors and indicators to plants and machine builders in Oman.

Banner Q4X and K50 Pro
Banner offers the Q4X in four range versions, all starting at 25 mm: Q4X100 to 100 mm, Q4X300 to 300 mm, Q4X500 to 500 mm and Q4X600 to 600 mm. The series is available with discrete, analog and IO-Link outputs and has a display on the sensor. The K50 Pro Beacon is a status indicator whose color and behavior are set from the controller over IO-Link.

Ordering Banner products: what we need
Send the complete Banner model number from the device label, because range, output type and connector are all coded into it. For the Q4X, state the measuring distance, the output your PLC input needs and the connector or cable style. For indicators, give the housing size, control method and voltage. Mating cordsets and brackets can be included for GCC orders.

FAQ
Questions about the Banner T18-2VPLP-Q8 Washdown Retroreflective Sensor
Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.
01Is T18-2VPLP-Q8 PNP or NPN?
Complementary PNP. The NPN version is T18-2VNLP-Q8.
02Which reflector is the range quoted for?
The model table gives 6 m (19.7 ft) with a BRT-84 reflector for the retroreflective models.
03What ingress protection does the T18-2 family have?
IP67 and IP68 per IEC 60529 and IP69K per ISO 20653, according to the datasheet.
04What is the temperature range?
-40 degrees C to +70 degrees C. Above 55 degrees C the supply must stay at or below 24 V DC and output current is limited to 50 mA.
05Can it be used for personnel protection?
No. The manufacturer states it lacks the self-checking redundant circuitry required for safety applications.
