ABB ACS880-01-430A-3 Wall-Mounted Drive 250 kW 430 A
Description
A 250 kW industrial drive on a 400 V supply
The ACS880-01-430A-3 is an ABB ACS880-01 wall-mounted single drive for 380 to 415 V supplies. Nominal output is 430 A at 250 kW and the mechanical size is frame R9. Typical jobs are centrifugal loads needing 200 to 250 kW and the biggest wall-mounted jobs: large pumps, fans and compressors. The ACS880 platform brings direct torque control, built-in Safe Torque Off and a choke for harmonic filtering, so a cabinet needs little else around the power part.

Current ratings and installation size
Two duty classes apply: light overload at 400 A and 200 kW, heavy duty at 363 A and 200 kW. Maximum output current is 545 A. Light overload suits pumps and fans, whose torque falls with speed, while heavy duty is the choice for crushers, extruders and conveyors that need high starting torque. Always size from the motor nameplate current at your voltage and check the ambient temperature and altitude against the hardware manual.
Frame R9 in IP21: height 955 mm including the cable box and 680 mm without, width 380 mm, depth 413 mm, mass 95 kg. IP55 enclosures are larger, 955 x 380 x 477 mm at 102 kg. The drive loses about 5797 W, needs 1150 m3/h of cooling air and runs at 70 dB(A).
Brake chopper, EMC filter and output filters
Dynamic braking: chopper a selectable internal option, order code +D150; resistor SAFUR200F500 (2.7 ohm, 5400 kJ, 13.5 kW continuous); minimum 2 ohm at 160 kW. The EMC filter options are +E202 (C2), +E200 (C3) and +E201 (C3 on ungrounded supplies); the base drive is C4. For long cables, submersible pumps or noise reduction, ABB lists the B84143V0390S229 sine filter (352 A, 160 kW).
Standard I/O is 6 digital inputs, 2 DIO, 2 analog inputs, 2 analog outputs and 3 relay outputs, plus STO and the RS485 link. The control unit has three slots for adapters, I/O extension, feedback and safety modules.

About brand
ABB is the Swiss-Swedish engineering group for electrification and automation: low voltage drives, motors, circuit breakers and motor control, process instruments and analysers, control systems and robots. It was formed on 5 January 1988 by the merger of two older companies. ASEA was founded in Västerås, Sweden, in 1883 by Ludvig Fredholm to make electric lighting and generators. BBC Brown Boveri was founded in Baden near Zurich in 1891 by Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri. ABB Ltd is incorporated in Switzerland, headquartered in Zurich and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.

Choosing an ABB drive
ABB's ACS drive codes are easy to read once you know the pattern. In ACS580-01-046A-4, "ACS580" is the drive family, "01" means a wall-mounted single drive, "046A" is the rated output current (about 46 A) and "-4" means a 380–480 V supply. The family is chosen by application: ACS355 for compact machinery, ACS310 for simple pumps and fans, ACS580 as the general-purpose drive, ACQ580 for water and wastewater with pump functions such as pipe fill and dry-run protection, and ACS880 for heavy industrial duty with direct torque control. Size the drive on the motor's full-load current, not only its kW rating, and allow derating for the high ambient temperatures common in Gulf electrical rooms.
Where ABB products are used
In Oman and the GCC, ABB drives and motors run pumps, fans and compressors in water and wastewater plants, district cooling, oil and gas and industry. ABB flowmeters, level instruments and analysers are used in water utilities, power and desalination plants and refineries, and SACE breakers protect switchboards in buildings and plants.
