ABB ACS380-040S-02A6-4 Machinery Drive 0.75 kW 2.6 A
Description
A 0.75 kW module on a 400 V supply
ACS380-040S-02A6-4 is the ACS380 type that ABB rates at 0.75 kW on 3-phase 380 to 480 V. Nominal output is 2.6 A at 0.75 kW, in frame R1. Think of packaging and labelling machines. Its connectivity is the standard variant (I/O and Modbus, BMIO-01 module fitted), and the EMC part is the low filtering level (C3 filter on 400 V, no internal filter on 230 V).

Choosing between light and heavy duty
Pick the current by load type: 2.1 A light-overload, 1.6 A heavy duty, 2.9 A maximum. The overload definitions are 110% for 60 seconds every ten minutes (light) and 150% for 60 seconds every ten minutes (heavy). UL rating on the ABB page: 1 Hp, 2.1 A at 480 V. Match the motor current, not just the kilowatts.
Upstream you can use 6 A gG, 25 A gR or 6 A class T fuses. Where a motor protector replaces fuses, ABB names MS132-6.3 & S1-M3-25 against an input current of 3.4 A. Plan the cabinet for 60 W (205 BTU/h) dissipation, where air flow 57 m3/h (33 ft3/min), maximum sound level 63 dBA.
Dynamic braking uses the integrated chopper. With an external resistor the catalogue allows 99 to 628 ohm, 0.75 Hp continuous and 1.1 kW at peak. Cranes, hoists and high-inertia fans can stop quickly without extra hardware.
Variants of the ACS380 code
Read ACS380-040S-02A6-4 as series ACS380, construction 04 (module), EMC digit 0, connectivity letter S, size 02A6 and voltage code 4. The letter S adds the BMIO-01 module with I/O and Modbus RTU, N leaves the extension slot empty and C is the configured variant. ABB’s examples of configured-variant options are +L534 for BAPO-01 external 24 V DC, +L535 for BTAC-02 encoder interface, +L515 for the BIO-01 I/O extension.
Operation is specified from -10 to +50 degrees C, with derating up to 60 degrees C on R1 to R4, and humidity of 5 to 95% non-condensing. Derate above 1000 m; the limit is 4000 m on 400 V units and 2000 m on 230 V units. Motor cables up to 150 m are allowed without external chokes.
Documents and quotation
This page follows ABB’s ACS380 catalogue, US edition Rev E, which is linked, plus the ABB page for the ACS380-040S-02A6-4. To request the ACS380-040S-02A6-4, send Seven Star LLC your motor data and supply details; availability comes with the quotation.
Please confirm the type code, options, motor rating, resistor and ambient conditions before you order. The catalogue is a US edition, so cross-check IEC values against ABB hardware manual 3AXD50000029274. More drive sizes sit in AC drives, and the ABB ACS580 page introduces the wall-mounted range.

About brand
ABB is the Swiss-Swedish engineering group for electrification and automation: low voltage drives, motors, circuit breakers and motor control, process instruments and analysers, control systems and robots. It was formed on 5 January 1988 by the merger of two older companies. ASEA was founded in Västerås, Sweden, in 1883 by Ludvig Fredholm to make electric lighting and generators. BBC Brown Boveri was founded in Baden near Zurich in 1891 by Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri. ABB Ltd is incorporated in Switzerland, headquartered in Zurich and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.

Choosing an ABB drive
ABB's ACS drive codes are easy to read once you know the pattern. In ACS580-01-046A-4, "ACS580" is the drive family, "01" means a wall-mounted single drive, "046A" is the rated output current (about 46 A) and "-4" means a 380–480 V supply. The family is chosen by application: ACS355 for compact machinery, ACS310 for simple pumps and fans, ACS580 as the general-purpose drive, ACQ580 for water and wastewater with pump functions such as pipe fill and dry-run protection, and ACS880 for heavy industrial duty with direct torque control. Size the drive on the motor's full-load current, not only its kW rating, and allow derating for the high ambient temperatures common in Gulf electrical rooms.
Where ABB products are used
In Oman and the GCC, ABB drives and motors run pumps, fans and compressors in water and wastewater plants, district cooling, oil and gas and industry. ABB flowmeters, level instruments and analysers are used in water utilities, power and desalination plants and refineries, and SACE breakers protect switchboards in buildings and plants.
