Pfannenberg PCM 70 Peltier Cooling Unit, 24 V DC, 74 W

Description

Peltier cooling and heating in a stainless IP 67 housing

The Pfannenberg PCM 70 is a 24 V DC Peltier unit that cools or heats a small enclosure without refrigerant or compressor. The PCM 55 and PCM 70 give 56 W and 74 W of cooling capacity and 84 W and 111 W of heating capacity. The stainless steel 1.4404 (V4A) cover and the IP 67 rating towards the surroundings make it a fit for harsh outdoor use, and it can be mounted in any position.

Heating and cooling are in one device, so no additional heater is needed. The sheet lists -40 to +70 °C ambient, high tolerance of shocks and vibration, and F-gas-free climatisation, which makes it a practical choice for small sensor boxes, camera housings, metering cabinets and mobile applications.

Controller and accessories

The units are controlled by the Pfannenberg FLZ 700 Peltier thermostat (17270802070), which reverses the DC polarity for cooling and heating and offers a gap mode that saves energy. The sheet also lists a condensate drain channel (18310200006) and drainage elements for the bottom (18310200007) and the side (18310200008). Cooling-capacity curves for both units are on the product sheet. The Pfannenberg FLZ 700 is the matching Peltier thermostat. As a general point, a Peltier module moves heat rather than making cold, so the electrical input of 74 W for the PCM 55 or 108 W for the PCM 70 is added to the heat rejected on the outside, which is why the capacity drops as the temperature difference grows.

Selection and what to confirm before ordering

Peltier cooling is suited to small heat loads. Check the cooling capacity against the heat load at the maximum ambient temperature, using the performance curve, because capacity falls as the temperature difference between the inside and the outside rises. The sheet describes position-independent operation and high tolerance of shocks and vibration, so mounting orientation is flexible. Confirm the 24 V DC supply and its current capacity, the controller, the condensate arrangement and the cut-out size. For larger loads use a compressor cooling unit such as the DTT 6301 or the Rittal Blue e+ wall-mounted cooling units; see the Cooling category.

About brand

Pfannenberg is the German maker of thermal management and signalling products for electrical enclosures and industry: filter fans, cooling units, air-to-water heat exchangers, chillers, heaters, sirens and beacons. Otto Pfannenberg, an electrical engineer, founded the company in Hamburg in 1954, and in 1958 he invented the filter fan to stop components in control cabinets from overheating. Pfannenberg is still family-owned and headquartered in Hamburg.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Pfannenberg signalling devices and enclosure climate products for panel builders and plant engineers in Oman and the GCC.

Milestones

  • 1954: Otto Pfannenberg founds the company in Hamburg.
  • 1958: Pfannenberg invents the filter fan for control cabinets.
  • 1962: The company introduces an industrial flashing light that does not need a bulb change after activation.

Pfannenberg product series

Signalling devices include the PATROL PA X combined flashing sounders from 105 to 122 dB(A), the PYRA flashing light sounder, the PRO 10-Ex sounder for zone 2 and zone 22, and the INTENSE BR 50 modular LED signal tower.

Thermal management covers FLZ enclosure thermostats, twin thermostats, hygrostats and Peltier thermostats, FLH radiant heaters and PFH and FLH-T fan heaters, PF filter fans in several installation sizes up to 785 m3/h and the PTF roof-mounted filter fan, and DTS and DTI cooling units, including the DTI outdoor version.

Where Pfannenberg products are used

Control and drive cabinets on machines and in plant rooms, outdoor enclosures in hot and humid climates, and alarm and evacuation signalling in industrial buildings and process areas. In the Gulf, cabinet cooling and condensation control are the main reasons for specifying Pfannenberg thermal products.
