The Yokogawa GX20 and its smaller sibling the GX10 are panel-mount paperless recorders in the SMARTDAC+ series. Real-time data appears on a resistive touch screen (GX10: 5.7-inch, 640 x 480; GX20: 12.1-inch, 800 x 600) and is stored in internal memory and on an SD card. Input, output and control are modular: a GX10 takes up to 3 modules (extendable with expandable I/O), a GX20 up to 10, and each can add expandable I/O units or a GM sub unit for remote or decentralised wiring. Module types are analog input, analog output, digital input, digital output, digital input/output, pulse input and PID control.

Channel capacity depends on the model: the GX10 and the standard GX20 (-1) record up to 100 channels, while the large-memory GX20 (-2) records up to 450 channels at fast scan intervals and takes up to 500 input/output channels in total. Internal memory is 500 MB on the GX10 and GX20-1 and 1.2 GB on the GX20-2.

Measurement, control and data functions

Each channel can be set to DC voltage, thermocouple, RTD, DI, DC current or pulse input. Typical accuracy printed for the GX90XA analog module is plus or minus (0.01 percent of reading + 5 microvolts) on the 20 mV range and plus or minus (0.02 percent of reading + 0.2 C) for Pt100. The shortest scan interval is 1 ms with a high-speed analog module. PID control of up to 20 loops (6 on the GX10 and GX20-1) is possible with the PID control module, program control of up to 99 patterns with the /PG option, and up to 32 time events and 32 PV events per segment. Math and report functions (/MT) create hourly, daily and monthly reports as PDF or Excel files,.

Connectivity includes Ethernet with email notification, web-server monitoring, FTP, Modbus/RTU and Modbus/TCP, with options for EtherNet/IP (/E1), OPC-UA (/E3), SLMP for Mitsubishi PLCs (/E4), RS-232 (/C2), RS-422/485 (/C3) and a VGA output (/D5).

Model code and options

The model is GX10 or GX20 followed by type -1 (standard, up to 100 channels) or -2 (large memory, up to 500 channels), a display language code and optional features: /AH aerospace heat treatment, /AS advanced security (21 CFR Part 11 support), /BC black cover, /BT multi-batch, /CG custom display, /FL fail output, /LG log scale, /MT math with reports, /MC communication channel function, /P1 24 V DC/AC supply, /PG program control and /UH USB host. Analog input modules are added to the main unit code (for example /UC10 for a 10-channel analog input module with clamp terminals). The input and output modules have their own datasheets (GS 04L53B01-01EN and GS 04L53B01-31EN), which should be consulted for terminal types, range and isolation.

Installation and what to confirm before ordering

Mounting is flush on a vertical panel (panel thickness 2 to 26 mm). The GX10 measures 144 x 144 mm with a depth of 174 to 255 mm depending on modules and weighs about 2.1 kg; the GX20 measures 288 x 288 mm, depth 169 to 220 mm, weight about 6.0 kg. The front is IP65 and NEMA Type 4 (except side-by-side mounting), the case is metal with a polycarbonate bezel, and supply is 100 to 240 V AC. Confirm the number and type of inputs, scan interval, memory, control channels, required communications and any aerospace or 21 CFR Part 11 needs. How the Yokogawa GX20 works

The recorder reads signals through plug-in input modules and scans them at the set interval. It shows the values on a touch screen and stores them in internal memory and on an SD card. Output and control modules can be added to the same unit.
