Carlo Gavazzi EM340DINAV23XS1X Three-Phase Energy Meter RS485

Description

A 65 A direct-connection three-phase meter in three DIN modules

The Carlo Gavazzi EM340DINAV23XS1X is the standard (non-MID) RS485 version of the EM340 three-phase energy meter. It measures up to 65 A directly, without current transformers, on three-phase systems from 208 to 400 V line to line, and is only three DIN modules wide (54 mm). A backlit LCD with three rows of eight digits and an integrated touch keypad shows energy and electrical variables.

The meter is aimed at cost allocation, sub-metering of tenants or production lines, and monitoring of motor feeders, pumps and small distribution boards. Active energy is class 1 (EN 62053-21) and class B (EN 50470-3), reactive energy is class 2, and current and voltage accuracy is +/-0.5% of reading. The unit is self powered from the measured voltage, so no separate auxiliary supply is needed.

Choosing between EM340 versions

The type code selects the communication and certification. The S1 output used here is an RS485 Modbus RTU port, O1 is an open-collector pulse output and M1 is an M-bus port. Versions with the PF option are certified to the MID directive (module B and D, class B, annex V MI003) and can be used for fiscal or legal metrology; the code on this page has the X option, so it is not MID certified and should not be used for legal metrology. Check the how-to-order table before quoting a different version.

The datasheet explains the A and B measurement modes for MID versions: A integrates power always, whether imported or exported, while B counts only positive energy. In standard X versions the measurement menu can be set to A or B, which determines whether energy from a wrongly connected current direction is added to the import total.

Installation and selection points

Because the meter measures up to 65 A directly, the load wires pass through the meter terminals, so confirm that the conductor size (2.5 to 16 mm2) and a suitable short-circuit protective device are in place. For loads above 65 A the EM340 direct-connection range stops, and a CT-operated analyzer is needed. The Modbus port supports up to 247 devices on one bus, with a data refresh time of 1 second, which suits energy management systems and SCADA gateways. Allow for the DIN rail space (3 modules) and ventilation in warm panels.

About brand

Carlo Gavazzi is an international group that designs, manufactures and markets electronic control components for building and industrial automation. The company was founded in Milan in 1931, and the publicly quoted holding company is headquartered in Steinhausen, Switzerland. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Carlo Gavazzi sensors, solid state contactors, energy meters and monitoring relays for panels and machines.

Carlo Gavazzi product families

The portfolio published by the group covers sensors, solid state relays, energy meters and analyzers, monitoring relays, soft starters, timers, power supplies and safety devices. Each family has a datasheet with ordering keys, ratings and dimensions, so an exact part number can be checked before ordering.

Ordering Carlo Gavazzi products: what we need

Send the complete part number, the quantity, the supply or load voltage and current, the mounting style and any approvals needed. For energy meters add the system type and communication port, and for solid state relays add the load type and the ambient temperature at the panel.
