A three-phase MID energy analyzer for feeders up to 65 A
The Carlo Gavazzi EM540DINAV23XS1PFA is a direct-connection three-phase energy analyzer for two-phase, three-phase with or without neutral, and wild-leg systems. This ordering code is the EM540 AV2 range (120 to 230 V line-to-neutral, 208 to 400 V line-to-line, 5(65) A) with the RS485 Modbus RTU port (S1) and the MID option PFA, whose total imported active energy counter is the MID-certified one. Because of that certification the datasheet describes the unit as usable for fiscal metrology when sealed.
Besides energy it measures system and phase voltages, currents, power, power factor, frequency, demand values and total harmonic distortion up to the 15th harmonic, and it keeps run-hour counters. Energy is displayed with a resolution of 0.001 kWh on a backlit LCD operated with three mechanical keys.

Reading the order code
EM540 DIN AV2 3X is the base type; the next field selects the communication or output module (O1 digital output, S1 RS485 Modbus, M1 M-Bus); the last field selects non-MID (X) or one of the MID versions PFA to PFE. PFA uses easy connection, in which power always counts as positive imported energy. Models PFB and PFC certify only the positive totaliser, while PFD and PFE certify both imported and exported energy. A separate PFx70 family extends the operating limit to +70 C.
Typical applications
The analyzer fits any low-voltage switchboard with rated current up to 65 A. It is used to split energy costs between tenants or machines, to monitor a single machine and correlate consumption with operating hours, or as a measurement point feeding a gateway. Seal the sliding terminal covers where the MID certification is used for billing, and wire the current through the 16 mm2 power terminals with the tightening torque given in the datasheet.
