Endress+Hauser Levelflex FMP55 Interface Guided Radar Transmitter

Description

Overview of the Endress+Hauser Levelflex FMP55 Interface and Level Radar

The Endress+Hauser Levelflex FMP55 is a guided wave radar built for level and interface measurement in liquids. Its distinguishing feature is a PFA-coated probe combined with a capacitance measurement, which allows it to locate the boundary between two liquids such as oil on water even when an emulsion layer forms between them. The transmitter is offered with a rod probe up to 4 m, a rope probe up to 10 m or a coaxial probe up to 6 m, covers a process range of –50 to +200 °C and –1 to +40 bar, and achieves ±2 mm in level measurement.

As the official trusted supplier and regional supplier for Endress+Hauser, Seven Star LLC proudly supplies the Endress+Hauser Levelflex FMP55 to customers across the Sultanate of Oman and the wider GCC. Seven Star LLC can supply the Technical Information TI01003F with each offer so that process engineers in Muscat, Sohar and Salalah can check probe coating, flange and interface conditions before ordering.

Interface Measuring Principle of the Endress+Hauser Levelflex FMP55

The Endress+Hauser Levelflex FMP55 is a downward-looking time-of-flight (ToF) system, also called time domain reflectometry. High-frequency pulses run down the probe and are reflected at the product surface, and the distance follows from D = c · t/2. In interface measurement, a part of the pulse enters the upper medium of low permittivity and is reflected again at the boundary to a lower medium of higher permittivity, so the delayed time-of-flight through the upper layer yields the interface position as well as the total level.

In addition, the FMP55 measures the capacitance of the probe. This is what keeps interface readings available when emulsions or rag layers weaken the second echo. The manufacturer lists conditions for this mode: the relative permittivity of the upper medium must be known, constant and not above 10, the permittivity difference between the media must exceed 10, the upper layer must be at least 60 mm thick, and the capacitive evaluation expects an upper-medium conductivity below 1 µS/cm and a lower-medium conductivity above 100 µS/cm.

Engineering Design of the Endress+Hauser Levelflex FMP55

The probe options match the vessel. The 16 mm PFA-coated rod probe over 316L reaches 4 m with a flexural strength of 30 Nm, the 4 mm PFA-coated rope probe over 316 reaches 10 m with a tensile loading capacity of 2 kN, and the 316L coaxial probe of 42.4 mm diameter with multiple holes reaches 6 m with 300 Nm flexural strength. Coaxial probes are unaffected by nozzles and internal fixtures and give maximum EMC protection in plastic tanks. A remote probe version with a separate sensor is available for probe lengths up to 7 m.

The process connection is a flange. The electronics sit in a plastic GT19, aluminum GT20 or stainless steel GT18 housing, weighing about 1.2 kg, 1.9 kg and 4.5 kg, with the probe adding about 1.2 kg per meter plus the flange. A two-wire loop needs 17.5 to 35 V in non-hazardous areas, and outputs are 4–20 mA HART, PROFIBUS PA and FOUNDATION Fieldbus, with optional Bluetooth for the SmartBlue app. A 32-point linearization converts level to volume or mass, and HistoROM stores configuration and measured values.

  • SIL 2 according to IEC 61508 and SIL 3 with homogeneous redundancy, with easy proof testing.
  • International explosion protection certificates, marine approval and EN 10204-3.1 material certificates.
  • Multi-Echo Tracking, mapping of interference echoes and Heartbeat Technology for diagnostics.

Industrial Applications of the Endress+Hauser Levelflex FMP55

The Endress+Hauser Levelflex FMP55 suits separators, decanters and settling tanks where oil, condensate or solvent floats on water, and storage vessels holding corrosive liquids that attack bare stainless steel probes, since the PFA coating protects the probe. In Oman this fits oil-water separation at upstream and midstream facilities, slop tanks and effluent treatment at refineries, and chemical storage in the Sohar and Salalah industrial zones where acids, caustic or aggressive solvents are handled.

In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the Levelflex family to customers in Oman and the GCC. For uncoated duties engineers can compare the Endress+Hauser Levelflex FMP51 and the Levelflex FMP54 guided radar, and for basic tanks the

About brand
Level, flow and pressure measurement account for most of the Endress+Hauser instruments engineers ask us about, and each device is defined by the order code on its nameplate. Endress+Hauser, founded in 1953 and based in Reinach, Switzerland, builds process instrumentation for liquids, gases and bulk solids. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing Endress+Hauser (E+H) flowmeters, radar and vibronic level instruments, pressure and temperature transmitters and liquid analysis equipment for plants in Oman and the GCC.

Endress+Hauser product families on this page

Level is the largest group: Micropilot free-space radar (FMR10B, FMR62 and the FMR67 for bulk solids, all 80 GHz), Levelflex guided radar (FMP50, and the FMP55 for interface measurement), the Liquiphant FTL51 vibronic point level switch and the Prosonic S FMU90 ultrasonic transmitter. Flow covers Proline Promag electromagnetic flowmeters (Promag P 300, Promag W 400) and the Prowirl F 200 vortex meter. Pressure is represented by the Cerabar PMP51B, temperature by the iTEMP TMT82 HART transmitter. For liquid analysis the listing has the Liquiline CM444 multiparameter transmitter and Memosens sensors such as the CPS11E pH electrode.

Where Endress+Hauser instruments are used

Water and wastewater plants rely on Promag W meters, radar level and Liquiline analysis. Oil and gas, chemical and power plants specify Levelflex and Micropilot on tanks and separators, Prowirl on steam and gas, and Cerabar on process lines. Food and pharmaceutical producers use hygienic versions of the same families, and cement and mining sites use the FMR67 on silos.

Ordering Endress+Hauser instruments: what we need

Send the order code and, for a replacement, the serial number from the nameplate. The extended order code is better still, because it spells out every option. Without a code we need the medium, pressure and temperature, measuring span, process connection, wetted materials, output signal or fieldbus, power supply, display and the hazardous area approval required. For flowmeters add line size and liner, for radar the tank height and nozzle size.
