Endress+Hauser Micropilot FMR62 80 GHz Radar Level Transmitter

Description

Overview of the Endress+Hauser Micropilot FMR62 80 GHz Radar Level Transmitter

The Endress+Hauser Micropilot FMR62 is a non-contact free space radar for continuous level measurement of liquids, pastes and sludges. It works at about 80 GHz with a small beam angle, which lets it measure in small vessels, narrow nozzles and tanks with many internal fittings. Two antenna families are offered: an integrated PEEK antenna for compact connections and a PTFE-cladded flush-mounted antenna for aggressive or hygiene-sensitive media, with a maximum measuring range of 80 m and an accuracy of ±1 mm.

As the official trusted supplier and regional supplier for Endress+Hauser, Seven Star LLC proudly supplies the Endress+Hauser Micropilot FMR62 to customers across the Sultanate of Oman and the wider GCC. Seven Star LLC provides the official Technical Information TI01303F with each enquiry, so that engineers in Muscat, Sohar and Salalah can verify antenna, seal and process connection before ordering.

Operating Principle of the Endress+Hauser Micropilot FMR62

The Endress+Hauser Micropilot FMR62 is a downward-looking system that uses the frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) method. The antenna emits a wave whose frequency is swept as a sawtooth between two limit frequencies, and the wave is reflected by the product surface. The difference frequency between the transmitted and the received signal is proportional to the run time, so the distance is obtained from D = (c · Δt) / 2, and the level is calculated from the empty distance entered during commissioning.

Operating at roughly 80 GHz, the device transmits a peak power of 6.3 mW and an average power of 63 µW, and up to eight devices can share one tank without influencing each other. Interference echoes from agitators, baffles and heating coils are suppressed by electronic mapping, and Multi-Echo Tracking evaluates the echo history so that the genuine level echo is followed reliably. Media with a dielectric constant of 1.9 or higher can be measured, and the Technical Information groups media from A0 (εr 1.2 to 1.4) to D (above 10) to estimate the usable range.

Engineering Design of the Endress+Hauser Micropilot FMR62

The antenna decides the range and the beam. The integrated PEEK antenna in 20 mm (¾") and 40 mm (1-½") sizes reaches 10 m and 22 m with beam angles of 14° and 8°, while the PTFE-cladded flush-mount antenna in 50 mm (2") and 80 mm (3") sizes reaches 50 m and 80 m with beam angles of 7° and 3°. Process connections include ISO 228 and NPT threads, flanges, Tri-Clamp and DIN 11851 hygienic connections, with FKM Viton or FFKM Kalrez seals.

The electronics are housed in a plastic GT19 housing of about 1.2 kg, an aluminum GT20 housing of about 1.9 kg or a stainless steel GT18 housing of about 4.5 kg, all rated IP68 / NEMA 6P with the housing closed. The two-wire loop accepts 14 to 35 V in non-hazardous areas with a power consumption below 0.9 W. Outputs are 4–20 mA HART, PROFIBUS PA and FOUNDATION Fieldbus, with an optional switch output or a second current output, and Bluetooth operation through the SmartBlue app is available.

  • Stilling-well and bypass operation with ranges up to 20 m for the 80 mm antenna.
  • SIL 2 according to IEC 61508 and SIL 3 with homogeneous or diverse redundancy, with WHG approval Z-65.16-583.
  • FDA and USP Class VI compliant PTFE cladding, plus 3A and EHEDG approval for hygienic connections.

Industrial Applications of the Endress+Hauser Micropilot FMR62

The Endress+Hauser Micropilot FMR62 is used for storage tanks, buffer vessels and agitated reactors in chemical and petrochemical plants, for solvent and acid tanks where PTFE-cladded antennas resist the medium, and for hygienic tanks in food, beverage and pharmaceutical production. In Oman it suits fuel and chemical storage at Sohar and Salalah, water treatment and desalination chemical dosing, and process vessels at refineries, where the compact PEEK antenna fits small nozzles and the 80 mm antenna covers tall tanks.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Micropilot range throughout Oman and the GCC. Buyers comparing radar options can review the Endress+Hauser Micropilot FMR60 and the Micropilot FMR52 from the same family, or the VEGA VEGAPULS 64 as an alternative 80 GHz radar.

About brand
Level, flow and pressure measurement account for most of the Endress+Hauser instruments engineers ask us about, and each device is defined by the order code on its nameplate. Endress+Hauser, founded in 1953 and based in Reinach, Switzerland, builds process instrumentation for liquids, gases and bulk solids. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing Endress+Hauser (E+H) flowmeters, radar and vibronic level instruments, pressure and temperature transmitters and liquid analysis equipment for plants in Oman and the GCC.

Endress+Hauser product families on this page

Level is the largest group: Micropilot free-space radar (FMR10B, FMR62 and the FMR67 for bulk solids, all 80 GHz), Levelflex guided radar (FMP50, and the FMP55 for interface measurement), the Liquiphant FTL51 vibronic point level switch and the Prosonic S FMU90 ultrasonic transmitter. Flow covers Proline Promag electromagnetic flowmeters (Promag P 300, Promag W 400) and the Prowirl F 200 vortex meter. Pressure is represented by the Cerabar PMP51B, temperature by the iTEMP TMT82 HART transmitter. For liquid analysis the listing has the Liquiline CM444 multiparameter transmitter and Memosens sensors such as the CPS11E pH electrode.

Where Endress+Hauser instruments are used

Water and wastewater plants rely on Promag W meters, radar level and Liquiline analysis. Oil and gas, chemical and power plants specify Levelflex and Micropilot on tanks and separators, Prowirl on steam and gas, and Cerabar on process lines. Food and pharmaceutical producers use hygienic versions of the same families, and cement and mining sites use the FMR67 on silos.

Ordering Endress+Hauser instruments: what we need

Send the order code and, for a replacement, the serial number from the nameplate. The extended order code is better still, because it spells out every option. Without a code we need the medium, pressure and temperature, measuring span, process connection, wetted materials, output signal or fieldbus, power supply, display and the hazardous area approval required. For flowmeters add line size and liner, for radar the tank height and nozzle size.
