Yaskawa J1000 Compact V/f Control AC Drive

Description

The Yaskawa J1000 is the entry-level member of the Yaskawa compact drive line: a V/f control inverter for 0.1 to 5.5 kW motors that is easy to set up and small enough for the tightest panels. It fits fans, small pumps, conveyors, packaging lines, doors and gates, and general machinery where the job is speed control rather than high-precision torque.

Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes J1000 drives against the manufacturer technical manual. Send the motor nameplate, supply and enclosure needs and we will match the full model code.

Reading the J1000 model code

The Technical Manual builds the number from CIMR-J, a region letter (A Japan, B China, U USA and so on), a voltage digit (B single-phase 200-240 Vac, 2 three-phase 200-240 Vac, 4 three-phase 380-480 Vac), a customized-specification letter, a four-digit rated current code, an enclosure letter and an environmental letter. Sample ratings: three-phase 200 V code 0004 is 3.5 A ND for 0.75 kW; 0012 is 12 A ND for 3.0 kW; 0020 is 19.6 A ND for 5.5 kW. At 400 V, code 0011 is 11.1 A ND for 5.5 kW.

Where J1000 fits and where it does not

V/f control with 150 % starting torque at 3 Hz is the right fit for centrifugal loads and most constant-speed conveyors. If your machine needs vector torque control, zero-speed holding or permanent magnet motors, move to the GA500 or the V1000 and A1000 families on this site. The AC drives category lists other brands with the same power range.

Some small models have no cooling fan: per the manual, BA0001B to BA0003B and 2A0001B to 2A0004B are fanless, so check mounting clearance and ambient limits when panels run hot.

Installation and protection

The drive stops after 60 s at 150 % of rated Heavy Duty current and trips instantly above 200 %. Momentary power loss ride-through stops the drive after 15 ms. A NEMA Type 1 kit is available as an option to convert IP20 chassis drives,. The manual also lists a braking resistor overheat input for the optional 3 % ED resistor.

About brand

Variable speed drives are the Yaskawa products most plant electricians meet first, usually on a pump, fan or conveyor. The company dates from 1915 and is based in Kitakyushu, Japan, and it also makes servo systems, robots and PLCs. Seven Star LLC supplies Yaskawa AC drives and control hardware in Oman. Listed here are the GA500 and GA700 drives and two 300S CPUs that many users still know under the VIPA name.

Yaskawa drives and VIPA controllers listed here

The GA500 is the compact microdrive for small motors and machine applications, and the GA700 is the general-purpose drive for larger motors and more demanding control. The GA500 is the follow-on to the V1000, and Yaskawa publishes a transition guide between the two. On the control side, the 315-2AG23 (CPU 315SB/DPM) and 315-4NE23 (CPU 315SN/NET) are SPEED7 processors of the 300S system, programmed with Siemens STEP 7 tools.

Ordering Yaskawa drives and CPUs: what we need

For a drive, send the full catalog code from the nameplate (it starts with CIPR-GA50 or CIPR-GA70), which fixes the voltage class, current rating and enclosure. Add the motor power and current, supply voltage, duty (normal or heavy) and any fieldbus option card. For a VIPA CPU, send the order number and the hardware and firmware version on the front label. We supply across the GCC and check each code against Yaskawa documentation.
