Yaskawa V1000 Compact Vector Control AC Drive

Description

The Yaskawa V1000 is a compact AC drive that packs open loop vector control into a small, cost-effective housing for machines up to 18.5 kW. It is a common choice on conveyors, packaging and filling machines, fans, mixers, small pumps and machine tools where tight speed regulation and strong low-speed torque are needed without the size and price of a high-end drive.

It runs induction motors and, through PM Open Loop Vector, surface and interior permanent magnet motors. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes V1000 drives by full model code against the manufacturer manual.

Decoding the V1000 model number

The Technical Manual builds the model from CIMR-V, a region code (U for the USA edition of the manual), a voltage digit (B single-phase 200-240 Vac, 2 three-phase 200-240 Vac, 4 three-phase 380-480 Vac), a customized-specification letter (A standard), a four-digit rated current code, an enclosure letter and an environmental letter. Enclosure letters: A IP00/Open-Chassis, B IP20/Open-Chassis, F IP20/NEMA Type 1, G NEMA 4X/IP66, J IP20/Finless, L IP00/Finless. Environmental letters: A standard, M humidity- and dust-resistant, S vibration-resistant.

Sample ratings from the manual: 2A0004 is rated 3.5 A ND (0.75 kW) and 3.0 A HD (0.4 kW); 2A0069 is 69 A ND for 18.5 kW. Single-phase BA0012 gives 12 A ND for 3.0 kW.

When V1000 is the right drive

Choose V1000 when you need open loop vector performance, with 200 % torque at 0.5 Hz and a 1:100 speed range, in a footprint that fits small control panels. The finless and IP66 versions cover cabinet-back-mounted and washdown layouts, while the IP20 NEMA Type 1 model is the general panel choice. For simple fixed V/f duty see the smaller GA500 microdrive page; for higher power and closed loop work, step up to the A1000 or GA700 families. Browse the AC drives category for other makes.

Installation notes and what to confirm

The manual requires rotational Auto-Tuning to reach the published open loop vector performance and asks that the drive be installed vertically in an area free from oil mist, metal shavings, corrosive gas, chlorides and direct sunlight. Overvoltage trips at about 410 V (200 V class) or 820 V (400 V class). Ride-through can be disabled, set for 0.5 s, or continued while the control board stays powered.

About brand

Variable speed drives are the Yaskawa products most plant electricians meet first, usually on a pump, fan or conveyor. The company dates from 1915 and is based in Kitakyushu, Japan, and it also makes servo systems, robots and PLCs. Seven Star LLC supplies Yaskawa AC drives and control hardware in Oman. Listed here are the GA500 and GA700 drives and two 300S CPUs that many users still know under the VIPA name.

Yaskawa drives and VIPA controllers listed here

The GA500 is the compact microdrive for small motors and machine applications, and the GA700 is the general-purpose drive for larger motors and more demanding control. The GA500 is the follow-on to the V1000, and Yaskawa publishes a transition guide between the two. On the control side, the 315-2AG23 (CPU 315SB/DPM) and 315-4NE23 (CPU 315SN/NET) are SPEED7 processors of the 300S system, programmed with Siemens STEP 7 tools.

Ordering Yaskawa drives and CPUs: what we need

For a drive, send the full catalog code from the nameplate (it starts with CIPR-GA50 or CIPR-GA70), which fixes the voltage class, current rating and enclosure. Add the motor power and current, supply voltage, duty (normal or heavy) and any fieldbus option card. For a VIPA CPU, send the order number and the hardware and firmware version on the front label. We supply across the GCC and check each code against Yaskawa documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What power range does the Yaskawa V1000 cover?
Per the Technical Manual: 0.1 to 18.5 kW at 200 V three-phase, 0.1 to 3.7 kW at 200 V single-phase and 0.2 to 18.5 kW at 400 V three-phase.
Can the V1000 run permanent magnet motors?
