FC 202 1.5 kW: a small IP20 AQUA drive for pumps built into a panel

Danfoss 131B8290 is the FC-202P1K5T4E20H1XG: 1.5 kW (2 HP), 380 to 480 V, IP20 chassis, A2 frame and class A1/B (C1) RFI filter. The VLT AQUA Drive is Danfoss’s line for water and wastewater, and this smallest size is used for dosing pumps, small booster sets, sump pumps and filter backwash pumps.

The store lists 4.1 A continuous at both overload ratings, 6.15 A intermittent at high overload, 2.84 kVA and a power loss of 62 W. It weighs 4.39 kg and measures 268 x 90 x 205 mm (H x W x D).

Water-sector functions in the parameter set

The operating guide for the FC 202 lists parameter groups that are specific to water: a cascade controller (group 25), sleep mode (22-4), short-cycle protection, broken-belt detection, an energy log, and a group of water application functions (29). Those are the reasons to choose the AQUA type instead of a plain frequency converter for a pump.

The guide also includes Safe Torque Off in its features, overload protection and a dual power rating, which allows a high-overload or normal-overload selection of the same hardware. At 1.5 kW both ratings show the same continuous current in the store data.

IP20 means a cabinet

The IP20 housing has open terminals at the bottom, so it is intended for use in a panel with the proper clearances and cooling. Use the mounting plate, a shielded motor cable and the decoupling plate of the series to meet the EMC specification, and ground the cable shield at both ends.

In the type code the E20 position gives the IP20 / Chassis housing, G the graphical panel, and X in the other positions means that there is no brake chopper, no coated board and no option card. Different codes exist for those variants.

Small pump drives are often ordered as a spare for several identical sets. If your plant already runs FC 202 drives, send the type code printed on the nameplate and the software version, because a replacement with the same code will accept the saved parameter file of the old unit. Keep a copy of the parameter set on the engineer laptop so that the swap takes minutes, not hours.

Keep the data sheet, a photograph of the nameplate and the order code 131B8290 together in the plant record. The same family contains many similar codes that differ only in range, connection or options, and a clear record saves time when a spare is needed during a shutdown.

Choosing Danfoss products

For solenoid valves, check the operating principle. A direct-operated valve such as EV210B opens even at 0 bar differential pressure. A servo-operated valve such as EV220B needs a minimum differential (typically about 0.3 bar) to open, while an assisted-lift valve such as EV250B works from 0 bar. Coils are ordered separately, so the voltage on the coil (for example 230 V AC or 24 V DC) must match the control circuit. For drives, the VLT family is split by application: FC 51 Micro Drive for small machines, FC 102 HVAC Drive for fans and pumps in buildings, FC 202 AQUA Drive for water, and FC 302 AutomationDrive for demanding industrial duty.
