Yaskawa GA800 Industrial AC Drive, 1 to 1000 HP

Description

The Yaskawa GA800 is the high-power, high-flexibility member of the Yaskawa industrial AC drive range. It covers 1 to 1000 HP, drives induction, surface and interior permanent magnet and synchronous reluctance motors, and brings embedded Safe Torque Off, function blocks, a removable control terminal board and Bluetooth-based PC and mobile commissioning to everything from fans and pumps to test dynamometers.

Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes GA800 drives by full catalog code. The attached document is the unaltered Yaskawa selection guide, including the catalog code tables used below.

Catalog code and how to size the drive

The selection guide builds the code as GA80 + region code (U = Americas) + input voltage digit (2 for 240 V, 4 for 480 V, 5 for 600 V) + a three-digit output current that follows the Normal Duty rating + A + enclosure letter (B for IP20, W for flange with Type 12 backside) + M for humidity and dust resistance. For example GA80U4005ABM is a 480 V, IP20 drive rated 5.4 A ND (3 HP ND, 2 HP HD, 4.8 A HD). Pair ND with variable-torque loads such as fans and centrifugal pumps, and HD with conveyors, crushers and other high-overload machines. The same tables list 12-pulse 480 V drives from 75 to 1000 HP (codes T103 to T720, then 4810 to 4H12), and special-firmware 1000/2000 Hz high frequency versions with the -056 suffix.

Control, safety and connectivity

Open loop vector handles most applications without feedback, while closed loop vector with an encoder card gives 1500:1 speed range and 0.02 % accuracy for dynamometers and winders. A built-in brake transistor is fitted up to 125 HP ND / 100 HP HD. Two Safe Torque Off inputs with a programmable EDM output remove torque without opening the main supply, so machines restart faster after a guard is opened. The control board accepts a 24 Vdc auxiliary supply so control power stays alive with main power removed, and up to five drives can be added as slaves over the embedded RS-485 port.

Enclosure and installation choices

Protected-chassis IP20 drives mount in a separate enclosure with heatsink inside or outside, and with the Type 1 kit they can stand alone. Flange-type drives put the heatsink outside a Type 12 cabinet when the surrounding air is dusty. The data section also covers fuse selection, with semiconductor fuses mandatory on larger sizes, plus EMC filters, AC and DC reactors, dynamic braking and R1000 regenerative units sold as options. See the GA700 and GA500 pages for smaller Yaskawa drives, or the AC drives category.

Documents and quotation

Before ordering please confirm: supply voltage and frequency, motor kW or HP and nameplate current, ND or HD duty, enclosure type, fieldbus option card, encoder type if closed loop, and regional model code. Catalog codes in the guide are printed for the Americas (GA80U); the code for other regions can differ, so confirm the exact order number with us before purchase.

About brand

Variable speed drives are the Yaskawa products most plant electricians meet first, usually on a pump, fan or conveyor. The company dates from 1915 and is based in Kitakyushu, Japan, and it also makes servo systems, robots and PLCs. Seven Star LLC supplies Yaskawa AC drives and control hardware in Oman. Listed here are the GA500 and GA700 drives and two 300S CPUs that many users still know under the VIPA name.

Yaskawa drives and VIPA controllers listed here

The GA500 is the compact microdrive for small motors and machine applications, and the GA700 is the general-purpose drive for larger motors and more demanding control. The GA500 is the follow-on to the V1000, and Yaskawa publishes a transition guide between the two. On the control side, the 315-2AG23 (CPU 315SB/DPM) and 315-4NE23 (CPU 315SN/NET) are SPEED7 processors of the 300S system, programmed with Siemens STEP 7 tools.

Ordering Yaskawa drives and CPUs: what we need

For a drive, send the full catalog code from the nameplate (it starts with CIPR-GA50 or CIPR-GA70), which fixes the voltage class, current rating and enclosure. Add the motor power and current, supply voltage, duty (normal or heavy) and any fieldbus option card. For a VIPA CPU, send the order number and the hardware and firmware version on the front label. We supply across the GCC and check each code against Yaskawa documentation.
