Weldotherm WR 10,5 Inverter Heat Treatment Unit

Description

Single-channel inverter unit for preheating and post-weld heat treatment

The Weldotherm WR 10,5 is a compact, one-channel resistance heat treatment unit built around an inverter power stage. At about 18 kg in a case the size of a pilot’s bag, it is aimed at small repairs, single joints and heat treatment in confined or hard-to-reach areas, where a multi-channel console would be impractical. The datasheet lists order number 103100.

Its output voltage is adjustable from 24 to 65 VDC in 1 V steps. That lets the unit drive heating elements of standard voltages as well as custom-built elements with intermediate voltages, provided the element stays within the current limits below. An integrated program controller and data logger make the unit self-contained for programmed heating, holding and cooling cycles.

Planning a heat treatment set-up

The WR 10,5 controls one zone from one Type K thermocouple. A complete set therefore needs a heating element matched to the joint geometry, power cables to the element, the thermocouple with its attachment method and compensating cable, and insulation over the heated area. These items are not part of the unit and should be specified separately.

When choosing an element, check both limits: the current at the selected voltage must stay within 180 A at 60 VDC or 160 A at 65 VDC, and the total load must remain within 10.8 kVA. On site, the unit needs a 400 V three-phase supply with protective earth and 32 A external fusing. Its IP21 rating and −20 to 40 °C ambient range mean it should be sheltered from rain, dust and direct sun during outdoor work.

Status messages and alarms are shown on the six front LEDs and also signalled acoustically, while the three four-digit displays show the set-point, the process value and a selected parameter during the cycle. Recorded data can be transferred to a PC with the supplied software and USB adapter cable, for example to document the cycle in a heat treatment report.

For several joints at once, or for heater ports at fixed 30 V and 60 V, Weldotherm’s multi-channel STANDARD EUROPA and VAS series are the alternatives within the same product line.

About brand
WELDOTHERM Gesellschaft für Wärmetechnik mbH, based in Essen, Germany, manufactures equipment for the controlled heat treatment of welds and has worked in this field for more than 40 years. Its range covers resistance and induction heat treatment units, heating elements and inductors, thermocouples, and measuring and control technology for site and workshop use. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat that lists the WR 10,5 inverter unit and sources Weldotherm equipment for preheating and post-weld heat treatment.

Weldotherm heat treatment units

The resistance range runs from the single-channel WR 10,5 inverter, which weighs about 18 kg, to the multi-channel STANDARD EUROPA and VAS series with 2 to 12 control zones for 30 V and 60 V heating elements. The VAI series uses induction, generating heat in the material itself. All units are used with Weldotherm heating mats, cables and Type K thermocouples.

Ordering Weldotherm equipment: what we need

State the unit type, the number of control channels, the site mains voltage and the voltage class of the heating elements you already use. For heating elements, give the type, voltage and dimensions. We check the configuration against Weldotherm datasheets and provide them on request.
