VEGA VEGACAP 35 Capacitive Cable Level Switch to 20 m

Description

A long cable switch with overfill and dry-run duty in silos

The VEGACAP 35 is an adjustment-free capacitive point level switch with a cable electrode, specified by VEGA for bulk solids, where overfill and dry-run protection are the typical applications. The cable is up to 20 m long and fully PE/PA 12 insulated, with a stainless steel gravity weight at the end, and the switch carries -1 to +16 bar and -40 to +80 °C. VEGA lists strong buildup and condensation as conditions in which the switching point stays exact, which suits silos for cement, grain, plastic granules and powders that sweat in humid climates.

Cable electrodes in tall vessels

One cable hung from the roof senses a limit at any depth, so the same housing can serve as a high-level alarm in a 3 m hopper or a 20 m silo by cutting the cable to length. Because bulk material can pull on the cable as it flows, check the tensile load and the roof strength, keep the cable out of the filling stream and clear of nozzles and walls, and use the gravity weight to hold the cable steady, as VEGA’s mounting guidance for cable probes advises.

Position within the VEGACAP range

The VEGACAP 35 is the economical PE/PA 12 cable for ordinary bulk solids at up to 80 °C and 16 bar. For hotter or higher-pressure silos, VEGA offers the VEGACAP 65, 66 and 67 cable types, which are rated far higher but are different products. The relay (DPDT) version here accepts 20 to 253 V AC or 20 to 72 V DC, switches up to 3 A AC or 1 A DC, and has two changeover contacts for a pump or valve and an alarm.

State the cable length, thread, bulk material and its dielectric constant when you request a quote. The specification sheet points to VEGA’s online configurator for complete materials and approvals, so please confirm the order code and the WRA overfill approval for your version with the manufacturer before ordering.

About brand

VEGA is a German maker of level and pressure instruments. Bruno Grieshaber founded the company in 1959 in Triberg in the Black Forest, and it has been based in Schiltach since 1975, still family owned as VEGA Grieshaber KG. VEGA is best known for radar level sensors: it introduced the first two-wire radar level sensor in 1997 and the first 80 GHz radar sensor for bulk solids, the VEGAPULS 69, in 2015.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing VEGA radar and guided wave radar transmitters, point level switches, pressure transmitters and signal conditioning instruments for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Sensors are matched from the product code on the type label.

Where VEGA instruments are used

VEGA radar sensors measure level in crude oil and product tanks, separators, chemical reactors, cement and aggregate silos, grain stores and water reservoirs. Compact cable radars are widely used in wastewater pumping stations and flood monitoring. Because 80 GHz radar focuses a narrow beam, it can measure past internal structures in a tank, and it is not affected by the temperature, pressure or vapour above the product, which suits hot Gulf storage tanks.

Ordering VEGA instruments: what we need

The product code on the type label (for example PS64.XXXXXXX) fixes the measuring range, antenna or probe, process connection, electronics and approvals. Send it with the serial number. For a new measurement add the medium and its dielectric constant if known, tank or silo height and internals, process pressure and temperature, process connection, output (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS PA, Modbus or IO-Link), and any hazardous-area or overfill protection approval required.
