Schneider Electric LXM32MD18N4 Lexium 32 1.8 kW Servo Drive
Description
LXM32MD18N4 a book-format Lexium 32 servo drive for 1.8 kW axes
The LXM32MD18N4 is a Schneider Electric product listed in the datasheet as: motion servo drive, Lexium 32, 18A, three phase, supply voltage 208 to 480V, 1.8kW. The Lexium 32M is a servo drive for synchronous servo motors in demanding motion axes. This 18 A peak, 1.8 kW version covers both 208 V and 400/480 V supplies, so one reference serves global machine builds, and the drive has a book format for side-by-side mounting. Seven Star LLC supplies the LXM32MD18N4 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier based in Muscat.
Decoding the reference: LXM32M is the standard Lexium 32 motion drive, D18 stands for the 18 A peak current class, and N4 marks the 208 to 480 V range. The datasheet lists an integrated EMC filter and a 1.8 kW nominal power at 400 and 480 V.

Current, power and safety of the LXM32MD18N4
Supply voltage: 200 to 240 V (tolerance -15 % / +10 %); 380 to 480 V (tolerance -15 % / +10 %). Supply voltage limits: 170 to 264 V; 323 to 528 V. Network frequency: 47.5 to 63 Hz. Supply frequency: 50/60 Hz (tolerance -5 % / +5 %). Discrete inputs: 2 capture; 2 safety; 4 logic. Discrete outputs: 3. Input voltage: 24 V DC capture; 24 V DC logic; 24 V DC safety. Output type: Logic DO24 V DC. Output voltage: <= 30 V DC. Output voltage: <= power supply voltage.
The drive gives 6 A continuous at 8 kHz and 18 A peak for 5 seconds, so it can deliver three times the continuous torque for short moves. Nominal power is 1.2 kW at 208 V and 1.8 kW at 400 or 480 V, and the datasheet quotes leakage current of 30 mA, which matters when RCDs are used upstream.
Safety is a strong point: STO is integrated at SIL 3 and PL e, with further functions such as safe stop 1 available with a separate safety card. Communication cards add Modbus TCP, CANopen and other fieldbuses, and the commissioning is done through a separate interface.
Placing the LXM32MD18N4 in the Lexium 32 range
The Lexium 32 range is sold in several variants that differ in the command interface, and the datasheet for this M version lists pulse train, analogue and communication-card options. A sibling such as the LXM32CD18N4 carries a different interface, so confirm the letter after LXM32 before ordering a spare.
For machine builders, the same engineering and software carry across sizes of the family, which is why the LXM32 is a favourite for machines with axes of different power.
Selection checklist for the LXM32MD18N4
- Motor: Lexium BMH or equivalent servo motor, cables, and holding brake if needed.
- Supply: 208 or 400/480 V three phase, noting the external line choke indicated for some line-current values.
- Fieldbus: choose the communication card (Modbus TCP, CANopen, etc.).
- Safety: STO plus any further safety card.
- Braking resistor: the datasheet lists a braking current, so size the resistor for the application.
- Cabinet: book format, check clearance and ambient temperature.
Commissioning and maintenance of the LXM32MD18N4
Check that the input power, the DC bus connection and the braking resistor match the project. After power-up, use the commissioning software to run the motor identification and optimise the position loop.
Servo drives are sensitive to feedback problems, so keep encoder cables short and screened. Back up the parameter set and the motor file together, and note the firmware version when ordering a spare.
Typical applications of the LXM32MD18N4 in Oman and the GCC
In Oman and the GCC the LXM32 is met on packaging machines, printing and converting lines, high-speed labelling and automated warehouse equipment. Dust, heat and humidity influence cooling, so check air filters and keep the heat sink clean.
Dimensions, environment and approvals of the LXM32MD18N4

About brand
Schneider Electric is the French group for energy management and industrial automation: low and medium voltage switchgear and circuit breakers, motor control, drives, PLCs, power monitoring, UPS systems and building management. Its history goes back to 1836, when the brothers Adolphe and Eugène Schneider took over the iron and steel works at Le Creusot in Burgundy. Over the 20th century the company left steel and heavy engineering and became an electrical group through acquisitions such as Merlin Gerin, Télémécanique, Square D and Modicon. Its head office is in Rueil-Malmaison near Paris, and its shares are listed on Euronext Paris.

Milestones
- 1836: The Schneider brothers acquire the Le Creusot works; the business grows in steel, locomotives and heavy engineering.
- 1975: First investment in Merlin Gerin, a French maker of electrical distribution equipment.
- 1988–1992: Télémécanique, Square D (USA) and Merlin Gerin join the group, making it an electrical specialist.
- 1997: Modicon, the company behind the first programmable logic controller, joins the group.
- 1999: The group takes the name Schneider Electric.
- 2007 and 2014: APC (UPS and data centre power) and Invensys (process automation) are acquired.
Choosing Schneider Electric breakers and motor control
Circuit breakers are chosen by current and breaking capacity. Acti9 miniature circuit breakers (iC60, C120) protect final circuits up to 125 A. ComPacT NSX molded case breakers cover about 16 to 630 A, and the letter after the frame size sets the breaking capacity: B, F, N, H, S, L from lowest to highest. MasterPacT air circuit breakers are used as main incomers on large switchboards. For motors, a TeSys contactor with an LRD overload relay or a GV2 motor circuit breaker suits direct starting, an Altistart soft starter reduces starting current, and an Altivar drive controls speed. The breaking capacity must always be at least the prospective short-circuit current at the point of installation.
Where Schneider Electric products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Schneider Electric equipment is found in main and sub-main switchboards of commercial and residential buildings, motor control centres in water, oil and gas and industrial plants, substations protected by Sepam and Easergy relays, data centres powered by Galaxy and APC UPS systems, and buildings controlled by EcoStruxure Building Operation.
APC by Schneider Electric: UPS and critical power
Since 2007, APC has been part of Schneider Electric and is now its product brand for uninterruptible power supplies, replacement batteries, battery packs, network management cards and rack power distribution. Our APC catalogue covers Smart-UPS line-interactive and on-line models, Easy UPS On-Line, the modular Symmetra LX, RM and PX ranges, Silcon three-phase systems and their spare part kits, and the RBC cartridges that keep them running.
