Taking a Reliable Spot Measurement
Trace moisture readings depend heavily on sampling technique. Use short, clean, dry sample tubing, preferably stainless steel or PTFE rather than rubber or nylon hose, which can release or absorb moisture. Purge the sample line and connections thoroughly before taking a reading, and allow the indication to settle, since very dry gases take longer to reach equilibrium. Because the meter measures at atmospheric pressure, the sample must be let down to atmospheric pressure in a controlled way, and any conversion to line-pressure dew point should use a recognised conversion method.

Troubleshooting Common Issues
A reading that falls very slowly is usually caused by moisture held in the sample line or fittings, not by a fault in the meter; longer purging or drier tubing normally solves it. Readings wetter than expected at a dryer outlet may indicate a genuine dryer problem, such as saturated desiccant or a failed regeneration cycle, and should be confirmed with a second measurement before action is taken. Oil contamination can affect the sensor, so a suitable filter is advisable when sampling compressed air downstream of oil-lubricated compressors.
