Brand:

Bernard Clean Air Fume Extraction MIG Gun 300 A 400 A 500 A

Description

A fume extraction MIG gun that matches the BTB handle

The Bernard Clean Air fume extraction MIG gun is an industrial-duty capture solution for MIG (GMAW) and flux-cored (FCAW) welding. Bernard says it closely matches the weight, handle size and industrial-grade performance of the Bernard BTB semi-automatic air-cooled MIG guns, so welders can move between guns with little change in feel. It is rated 300, 400 or 500 A at 60 % duty with mixed gases and accepts wire from 0.023 to 3/32 in.

It is suited to heavy equipment, shipbuilding, fabrication and commercial truck and trailer work, where capturing fume at the source helps provide a cleaner and more compliant work environment.

How fume capture is controlled

The nozzle shroud adjusts to one of four positions, and a suction control valve lets the welder balance suction against shielding gas flow so that the extraction does not pull gas away from the weld and cause porosity. The vacuum hose has threaded connections for easy replacement, is crush- and snag-resistant, and eliminates the need for a protective cover. A ball and socket hose swivel improves flexibility and reduces wrist fatigue, and the straight-handle model has a rubber overmold for comfort and control.

Bernard states the gun is compatible with vacuum systems from most major manufacturers. Capture is best when the gun is held directly above the weld puddle, as the spec sheet diagram shows.

Selecting the configuration

Pick the amperage model by wire size and duty first: CL30 and CL40 take wire up to 5/64 in, and CL50 takes wire up to 3/32 in. Then choose the cable length, the consumable series, the contact tip and wire size, the power pin for the feeder, and a front-load or rear-load liner. Several parts are listed as available through the Bernard configurator, so a complete order code should be confirmed there.

About brand

Bernard is a manufacturer of semi-automatic MIG welding guns and consumables, based in Beecher, Illinois. Arthur A. Bernard founded the company in 1947 as Engineered Welding Products in Chicago, and it took the name Bernard Welding in 1963; it is now part of ITW Welding. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Bernard MIG guns and sources Bernard guns and consumables for fabricators and pipe welding contractors.

Bernard product groups

The range covers semi-automatic air-cooled guns such as BTB, TGX, S-Gun and PipeWorx, water-cooled T-Gun and W-Gun models, fume extraction guns, the IronPro self-shielded flux-cored gun, and the AccuLock, Centerfire and TOUGH LOCK consumables, liners and necks that go with them. Bernard lists offshore oil and gas, construction and infrastructure, heavy equipment, rail and ship among the industries it serves.

Ordering Bernard guns: what we need

Give the gun model, amperage, cable length, handle and neck style, wire type and diameter, and the feeder connection. For consumables state the consumable family, such as AccuLock S or Centerfire, and the contact tip and nozzle sizes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Bernard Clean Air?
A MIG and flux-cored welding gun with built-in fume extraction at the nozzle.
What amperage models exist?
CL30 at 300 A, CL40 at 400 A and CL50 at 500 A, all at 60 % duty with mixed gases.
Can it be used with flux-cored wire?
Yes. The spec sheet lists both MIG (GMAW) and flux-cored (FCAW) processes.
How is suction balanced against shielding gas?
With a suction control valve on the gun, so extraction does not strip shielding gas from the weld.
Which vacuum systems can it connect to?
Bernard states it is compatible with vacuum systems from most major manufacturers.
