Petzl ANNEAU Sewn Sling for Anchor Points
Description
A sewn open-loop sling for building anchors
The Petzl ANNEAU (reference C40A 60 for the 60 cm yellow sling) is a sewn polyester open-loop sling used to set up anchors around structural members. Petzl offers it in four lengths, 60, 80, 120 and 150 cm, colour-coded so the length can be identified at a glance, and also in black. Its breaking strength is 22 kN and it is certified as a type B temporary anchor device.
A sling turns a beam, pipe rack or column into an anchor point for a lanyard, a pulley or a rope system. The ANNEAU carries a stated breaking strength and standards, so it can be matched to a project specification that calls for a certified sling rather than an unmarked strap. Petzl states that it must not be used as a means of hoisting.

Using the sling as an anchor
Select the length from the circumference of the structure to be wrapped. The instructions for use state that when the anchor device is part of a fall-arrest system the structure must be able to hold 12 kN, and that the anchor point should preferably be above the user and meet EN 795. When the sling is part of a fall-arrest system, the user must be equipped with a means of limiting the impact force exerted on the user to a maximum of 6 kN, such as an energy absorber. The instructions also warn against falling on a sling, avoiding all contact with sharp edges or abrasive surfaces, and keeping the sling away from chemicals such as vapours, acids, oils and gasoline, which can destroy the fibres. Wet or frozen slings are harder to handle. Check the webbing and the safety stitching for cuts, wear, heat damage and loose threads before use, and have a rescue plan ready. Petzl recommends a detailed inspection by a competent person at least once every 12 months.
