3M 8210 N95 Particulate Respirator
Description
Overview
The 3M 8210 is a classic cupped disposable particulate respirator that has become a reference product for everyday dust and fume protection in industry. It offers lightweight, comfortable respiratory protection against dusts, mists, fumes and smokes, and 3M describes it as an excellent choice for work settings involving heat, humidity and long periods of wear. The 3M 8210 is available as an N95 version that meets the US 42 CFR Part 84 requirements under NIOSH and as a P2 version that meets AS/NZS 1716:2012, so a single familiar design can satisfy different site standards.
Seven Star LLC supplies the 3M 8210 to construction and fabrication contractors, oil and gas maintenance teams, cement and quarry operators and workshop stores across the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC. We provide the 3M technical data sheet, help buyers decide between disposable and reusable respiratory protection, and offer engineering support from our Muscat office.
Working Principle
A disposable filtering facepiece is itself the filter. Air drawn in by the wearer passes through the polypropylene filter media of the 3M 8210, which captures airborne particles before they reach the nose and mouth. The N95 rating means the filter meets the NIOSH test requirement of at least 95 percent efficiency against the test aerosol for non-oil particles; the P2 rating is the equivalent Australian and New Zealand class. Because the media is designed for non-oily particles, the data sheet warns that filtration efficiency may fall in the presence of oily mists.
Filtration only works if air cannot bypass the filter, so the face seal matters as much as the media. The cupped shape, twin strap design and adjustable aluminium nose clip are intended to give a custom fit with fewer pressure points and a secure seal across a range of face sizes. 3M recommends fit testing before a respirator is assigned, and a user seal check each time it is worn. The respirator protects the lungs only; it will not prevent exposure through the skin or eyes, which need additional PPE.
Engineering Design of the 3M 8210
Construction is simple and light, at about 10 g per respirator. The filter is polypropylene, the straps are Kraton and ultrasonically welded to the shell, and the nose clip is aluminium alloy 3003. The cupped shell holds its shape away from the mouth, which helps comfort in hot conditions and during long wear. The straps are pre-stretched before donning, the upper strap sits across the crown of the head and the lower strap below the ears, and the nose clip is moulded with both hands to the shape of the nose.
The 3M fitting sequence for the 3M 8210 is to cup the respirator in one hand with the nosepiece at the fingertips, place it under the chin, position the two straps without twisting, mould the nose clip, and then perform a fit check by covering the respirator with both hands and exhaling sharply. Leaks at the nose are corrected at the nose clip, and leaks at the edges by moving the straps. If a proper fit cannot be achieved, the wearer must not enter the contaminated area. Maximum operating temperature is +50°C.

- Adjustable aluminium nose clip that reduces pressure points across a range of face sizes.
- Polypropylene filter media and ultrasonically welded straps.
- Five-year unopened shelf life with the end date marked on the packaging.
Industrial Applications
The 3M data sheet lists applications including foundries, furnaces, leadwork, light welding and bushfire fighting, along with healthcare uses such as dental care and laser surgery smoke. In Oman, the 3M 8210 is commonly issued for grinding and cutting, sanding, light welding, cement and aggregate handling, warehouse and construction dust, and cleaning tasks, where a disposable respirator matched to a particulate hazard is appropriate. For tasks with gases, vapours, oily mists or high concentrations, a reusable half or full facepiece with suitable cartridges or a powered air system is normally selected instead.
Seven Star LLC supplies the 3M 8210 to workshops alongside equipment such as the Kemppi Minarc Evo 180 portable stick welder, weld finishing tools like the Cougartron PowerONE weld cleaning machine, and consumable storage such as the Gedik GKF-4Y electrode holding oven. Site stores in Muscat, Sohar, Duqm and Salalah can combine respiratory protection with other welding and maintenance items in a single order.
As general guidance, the 3M 8210 and other disposable respirators should be stored in their original packaging away from dust and heat, issued with training on donning and seal checks, and discarded at the end of a shift or sooner if damaged, soiled or hard to breathe through. Users with beards or facial hair at the sealing edge cannot achieve a reliable seal, and people with respiratory conditions should be medically evaluated before use, as the 3M data sheet notes.

About brand
Few names turn up on as many maintenance requisitions as 3M: the tape in the electrician's pouch, the respirator at the paint booth, the earmuffs at the compressor house. Seven Star LLC supplies 3M industrial and safety products to buyers in Oman, and the items listed here cover Peltor hearing protection, 6000 series reusable respirators, Speedglas welding helmets, Scotch electrical tape and Liqui-Cel membrane contactors.
3M product lines listed here
The listing follows five separate 3M lines, each with its own part numbering. Peltor X Series earmuffs are graded by attenuation, and the X5A is the over-the-head model with an NRR of 31 dB. The 6000 series half facepiece comes in three sizes (6100 small, 6200 medium, 6300 large) and takes 3M bayonet cartridges and filters, which are ordered separately. Speedglas 9100 is the auto-darkening welding helmet family, supplied with different filter sizes and with or without side windows. Scotch Super 33+ is the vinyl electrical tape most specifications call for by name. Liqui-Cel membrane contactors, such as the EXF-4x13, add or remove dissolved gases in liquid streams.
Where 3M products are used
Hearing, respiratory and welding protection from 3M is specified by HSE departments in refineries, fabrication yards, power plants and construction sites across the GCC. Super 33+ tape is used for primary insulation and jacketing on low-voltage splices and for phase marking in panels. Liqui-Cel contactors sit in water treatment and process skids where oxygen or carbon dioxide has to be stripped from water, for example ahead of boilers or in ultrapure water loops.

Frequently Asked Questions
The 3M 8210 is a disposable particulate respirator for non-oily mechanically generated particulates such as dusts and mists, and for thermally generated fumes and smokes. It does not protect against gases or vapours, and the data sheet notes that filtration efficiency may decrease in the presence of oily mists.
Both versions exist. The 8210 N95 (3M ID 7000008670) meets the N95 requirements of US 42 CFR Part 84 under NIOSH, and the 8210 P2 (7000037790) meets AS/NZS 1716:2012. Buyers should order the version required by their site standard.
The 3M data sheet lists light welding, foundries, furnaces and leadwork among typical applications. For heavier welding with high fume levels or where ozone or gases are present, a reusable respirator or powered air system is usually more suitable, based on the site's hazard assessment.
Unopened product has a five-year shelf life from manufacture when stored between -20 and +25°C at less than 80 percent relative humidity. In use, the respirator should be replaced when damaged, soiled or when breathing becomes difficult; it must not be washed, repaired or altered.
Yes. Seven Star LLC supplies the 3M 8210 N95 and other 3M respiratory protection to contractors, workshops and plant stores in Oman and the GCC from Muscat, with the 3M technical data sheet. Send quantities for a quotation.
