Moldex 9000 Series Reusable Full Face Respirator

Description

A light, metal-free full face respirator with a wide view

The Moldex 9000 Series is a reusable full-face respirator that Moldex rates at under 13 ounces. The facepiece uses an extra-wide viewing lens with peripheral side panels, and the lens is fixed by an overmolded flange rather than a metal clamping frame, so the mask contains no metal at all. Moldex points to mines, refineries and other places where metal may be hazardous as suitable uses. The ratchet fastening strap and stand-away head harness make donning and doffing quick, and the lens stays off the bench when the mask is laid down.

Maintenance is simpler than on many full-face designs: Moldex counts only nine parts against up to 24 on other respirators, with the harness tabs moulded directly into the flange and an integrated exhalation assembly. A tear-away lens protector is supplied.

Selecting the size, cartridges and fit test

The 9000 Series is sold as a facepiece, so the cartridges and filters are specified separately. Moldex publishes a NIOSH approval matrix for its cartridge and filter combinations across the 7000, 7800 and 9000 respirators; use it to select a combination approved for the contaminant. The datasheet warnings apply in full: a written respiratory protection programme, employer training, medical evaluation and a qualitative or quantitative fit test before a respirator is assigned.

Do not use the respirator in unknown or immediately dangerous to life or health atmospheres, in oxygen-deficient atmospheres, or against gases and vapours with poor warning properties. A full-face mask offers a higher protection level than a half mask only if it seals, so beards, hair and spectacles that break the seal must be dealt with.

Documents and quotation

The attached Moldex data sheet lists the three sizes, the ANSI Z87+ lens and the warnings and limitations. Since the 9000 Series carries NIOSH approvals, confirm that these satisfy your site standard before ordering. For a quotation give the size, the cartridge or filter type and the number of masks. See the Moldex half-mask alternative on the respiratory protection page and the published 3M 6200 half facepiece for half-mask options.
