JUMO 608003 Bimetal Dial Thermometer, Chemistry Version

Description

Bimetal dial thermometer with bayonet case for chemical and process plants

The JUMO 608003 is the chemistry version of the bimetal dial thermometer. It measures the temperature of liquids and gases and can be installed in pipelines, containers, machines and systems, including outdoors. The measuring system is a bimetal coil, so the pointer moves mechanically and no supply voltage is needed.

The case is stainless steel with a bayonet fastener in 1.4301 (304), the front pane is glass and the scale is polished aluminum with black labelling. Standard protection is IP65, which falls to IP54 when the drag indicator is fitted. The dial is read on a linear scale and the data sheet lists accuracy class 1.

A further feature is an Ex marking. The type carries ATEX and UKEX marking II 2 G Ex h IIC T6-T1 Gb and II 2 D Ex h IIIC T80°C-T450°C Db when extra code 601 (Ex h protection according to directive 2014/34/EU) is ordered. Certificates for approved device versions are available for download on the manufacturer website.

Pressure compensation (extra code 746) is a useful option where the case sits in an environment with large temperature swings, because it limits the build-up of pressure differences inside the sealed housing.

Order code and extra codes

The order code consists of the basic type, display range, process connection, diameter, thread, process connection material, insertion length and extra code. An example from the data sheet is 608003/0110-810-010-10-104-26-100/000. Probe diameters of 6, 10, 12, 14 and 17 mm are available depending on the connection, and the details of each connection are described in data sheet 608730.

Extra codes include 409 (polished housing and front ring), 434 (drag indicator adjustable with a screwdriver and protected by a cover), 522 (customized scale), 601 (Ex h protection according to directive 2014/34/EU) and 746 (pressure compensation element). Specify all extra codes in sequence, separated by commas.

The 160 mm dial is the right choice when readings are taken from walkways or platforms, while the 100 mm case saves space on skids and small machines. The scale polished aluminum plate has black labelling and can be customized with extra code 522 if you want a specific unit, tag or marked operating band printed on the dial.

Check the table of display and measuring ranges before you choose the code. For example, a 0 to 250 °C display range has a stated measuring range of 30 to 220 °C with a tolerance of 2.5 K, and a 0 to 500 °C range uses 50 to 450 °C with 5.0 K. Operating inside the measuring range is what keeps the reading within the stated class.

Where it fits

The data sheet lists mechanical engineering, process industry, gear and gearbox construction, chemical plants and plant engineering. The bayonet case with a larger 160 mm option makes the dial easy to read on tall vessels and long pipe runs.

Because the reading is mechanical and insensitive to ambient temperature, it is a practical local indicator in zones where electronic indicators would need protection. If the application is in a hazardous area, confirm the zone, gas group and temperature class with the Ex marking before you order, and add extra code 601.

Typical installations are reactor jackets, solvent lines, heating loops, gearbox oil circuits and process skids. Ask for the process connection that matches your pipe or vessel, such as a weld-in tube (SH 09) for a fixed process line or a threaded tube (SH 04) for a service point.

The drag indicator option (extra code 434) records the highest temperature reached and is set with a screwdriver under a protective cover. Remember that fitting it changes the protection type from IP65 to IP54, so plan the location accordingly.

About brand

JUMO is the German maker of temperature sensors, process controllers, pressure transmitters and liquid analysis instruments. Moritz Kurt Juchheim founded it in Fulda in 1948 as M. K. Juchheim KG, making glass thermometers with six employees. The name JUMO comes from the founder's name. It is still a family company headquartered in Fulda, and the parent company has been called JUMO GmbH & Co. KG since 2003.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list JUMO RTD and thermocouple probes, thermowells, transmitters, controllers, recorders and water analysis instruments, and supply them to process plants, OEMs, HVAC contractors and water utilities in Oman and the GCC by type number.

Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.

Where JUMO products are used

In Oman and the GCC, JUMO sensors and controllers are used in oil and gas and chemical plants, food and beverage production, plastics and metal heat treatment, HVAC and district cooling, water and wastewater treatment, swimming pools and marine applications.

Ordering JUMO products: what we need

Send the JUMO type number and the full order code from the label (for example 902020/10-...). For probes, add the sensor type (Pt100, Pt1000, type K or J), the number of wires, the insertion length and diameter, and the process connection. For controllers, add the input, outputs and supply voltage.

Facts checked against JUMO's company history, October 2026.
