JUMO safetyM TB/TW 08 Panel-Mount Temperature Limiter, Type 701170
Description
Panel-mounted temperature limiter and monitor for protecting thermal processes
The JUMO safetyM TB/TW 08 (type 701170) is a freely programmable temperature limiter and monitor that sits in a 48 x 96 mm panel cut-out. When the process value passes the set limit, the internal relay, which carries a built-in 3.15 AT fuse cut-out, drops the plant into a safe state, the green OK lamp goes out and the red K1 lamp lights.
The same hardware works as a limiter (TB), which needs a manual Reset press after the process has returned to the valid range, or as a monitor (TW), which resets by itself. A second relay, KV, can announce a pre-alarm before the limit is reached, either as an absolute value or as a distance from the limit. The input is configured for RTD probes, thermocouples, current or voltage signals, so one device type covers many furnace, oven and heating-circuit designs.
Because all configuration lives in software, one stocked unit can be set for a type K thermocouple on a furnace today and a Pt100 on a heating loop tomorrow. Internal and external unlocking, a keypad inhibit and a level inhibit prevent unwanted changes once the limit has been commissioned, and the display can be switched to degrees Fahrenheit.

Choosing limiter or monitor behavior and the supply version
The device has no fixed personality: limiter or monitor, inverse or direct switching, input type and range are all set in software through the setup interface. The data sheet lists four stock versions with order codes such as 701170/8-0153-1001-25/005.00, which differ in supply voltage and the analog-output extra code. Confirm which supply (110 to 240 V or 20 to 30 V AC/DC) and which analog output you need before ordering.
For DIN-tested installations the data sheet lists matching probes. These are 902006 RTD probes and 901006 thermocouples for air, water and oil. Because the response accuracy is high, the sheet states that thermowells are not admissible with the air-type probes, and that only the supplied thermowells may be used with the weld-in probe types.
Wiring is simple: plug-type screw terminals on the rear, a single binary input for reset or lock functions, and a setup interface on the front for the PC adapter. The data sheet lists three accessory items: the multilingual setup program (70/00548543), a TTL/RS232C PC interface (70/00350260) and a USB/TTL PC interface (70/00456352), plus the external unlocking button RT (70/97097865).
Installation notes and typical uses
Mount the device vertically in a panel with a 45 x 92 mm opening; the IP65 rating applies only at the front, so keep terminals and wiring inside the cabinet. Wire the plug terminals with up to 2.5 mm2 single wire or 1.5 mm2 fine-strand wire with ferrules. For two-wire RTD connections over long leads, the lead resistance can be entered in the extended configuration.
Typical jobs are over-temperature protection of electric heaters, ovens and heat-treatment furnaces, fluid heaters in oil-and-gas skids, and drying and curing lines where a second, independent channel must cut the heating. In hot sites such as Oman, remember the 0 to +55 °C ambient limit when the panel sits in direct sun or a non-air-conditioned shelter.
When specifying the device, remember what the limit relay protects: the data sheet states clearances of at least 6 mm and creepage distances of at least 8 mm between mains, relay and the electronics. Include the delivery scope in the order: the device comes with seal, fastening elements and operating manual B701170.0.

JUMO is the German maker of temperature sensors, process controllers, pressure transmitters and liquid analysis instruments. Moritz Kurt Juchheim founded it in Fulda in 1948 as M. K. Juchheim KG, making glass thermometers with six employees. The name JUMO comes from the founder's name. It is still a family company headquartered in Fulda, and the parent company has been called JUMO GmbH & Co. KG since 2003.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list JUMO RTD and thermocouple probes, thermowells, transmitters, controllers, recorders and water analysis instruments, and supply them to process plants, OEMs, HVAC contractors and water utilities in Oman and the GCC by type number.

Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.
Where JUMO products are used
In Oman and the GCC, JUMO sensors and controllers are used in oil and gas and chemical plants, food and beverage production, plastics and metal heat treatment, HVAC and district cooling, water and wastewater treatment, swimming pools and marine applications.
Ordering JUMO products: what we need
Send the JUMO type number and the full order code from the label (for example 902020/10-...). For probes, add the sensor type (Pt100, Pt1000, type K or J), the number of wires, the insertion length and diameter, and the process connection. For controllers, add the input, outputs and supply voltage.
