JUMO dicoTEMP 800 Dial Thermometer with Microswitch

Description

Panel-mount dial thermometer with setpoint microswitch

The JUMO dicoTEMP 800 (type 608530) is a dial thermometer with a microswitch, used as a universal temperature controller with an actual value display. It is intended for panel mounting, has a stainless steel case and offers a low mounting depth. The operator sees the actual temperature on the dial and sets the switching point with a setpoint adjuster in the front pane.

The measuring system works on a volume change in a liquid-filled system or a pressure change in a gas-filled system. A bourdon tube turns that change into a rotation of the pointer without any transmission gear, and the rotation of the indicator shaft actuates the microswitch through a tap system. The series is RoHS-compliant and cadmium-free.

Two case sizes and two design types are listed, 608530/2060 and 2080 plus 2160 and 2180, with case diameters of 60 mm or 80 mm. The scale is white with black lettering, the front pane is acrylic glass and the chassis is die-cast.

The setpoint is adjusted by a pointer in the front pane, so no tools are needed to change the switching temperature. Dimensions are listed for panel cut-outs of 62 mm for the 60 mm case and 82 mm for the 80 mm case, with a rear terminal compartment for the electrical connection.

How to specify the switching version

Pick a display range so that the switching setpoint lies in the middle part of the scale, then select the contact rating. The microswitch must be fused accordingly, and for maximum switching reliability the data sheet recommends a minimum of 24 V and 100 mA on the contact.

The capillary choice depends on the medium: FL17 stainless steel capillary of about 1.5 mm, FL21 copper capillary of about 1.0 mm, or FL22 stainless steel capillary of about 1 mm, each in 1000 mm or 2000 mm. The process connection is either TF01, a temperature probe with a stepped support tube, or TA25, a displaceable threaded fitting on the capillary. The probe diameter is 6 or 8 mm with G 3/8 or G 1/2 thread, in CrNi 1.4571 or copper and brass.

Liquid fill suits display ranges up to 350 °C and gas fill suits ranges from 400 °C upward. With liquid fill the time constant is about 12 seconds in water for a 6 mm copper probe, and with gas fill about 4 seconds in oil for a 10 mm stainless probe.

Design types 20 and 21 differ in the way the case sits behind the panel, so check the mounting depth drawings in the data sheet before you decide. The device must be wired from an electrical circuit that meets the requirements of limited-energy circuits according to DIN EN 61010-1, and the cable cross-section may be up to 2.5 mm2 at the screw terminals.

Where it is used

A panel-mounted dial thermometer with a switch is a simple way to watch and limit temperature on boilers, heating circuits, ovens, machine oil systems and small process plant when a full electronic controller is not needed. The microswitch can drive a contactor, a signal lamp or a valve within its rating.

The reading is affected by the ambient temperature at the case, by 0.15 % of the display range per kelvin on liquid-filled devices and 0.05 % on gas-filled ones, and a higher ambient temperature gives a higher display and a lower switching point. Keep the housing in a stable ambient and use the bend protecting spring on capillary and probe.

Typical use is a front-panel thermometer with a basic high or low temperature alarm contact, for example on a boiler cabinet or a heating distribution panel. Where a fail-safe limiter is required, compare it with the JUMO safety temperature limiters before you decide, because a dial thermometer switch is a control device and not a certified safety limiter.

After mounting, fit the bend protecting spring on the housing and on the probe so the capillary is not kinked. Do not shorten or coil the capillary beyond the instructions in the operating manual, because the measuring system volume affects the reading.

About brand

JUMO is the German maker of temperature sensors, process controllers, pressure transmitters and liquid analysis instruments. Moritz Kurt Juchheim founded it in Fulda in 1948 as M. K. Juchheim KG, making glass thermometers with six employees. The name JUMO comes from the founder's name. It is still a family company headquartered in Fulda, and the parent company has been called JUMO GmbH & Co. KG since 2003.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list JUMO RTD and thermocouple probes, thermowells, transmitters, controllers, recorders and water analysis instruments, and supply them to process plants, OEMs, HVAC contractors and water utilities in Oman and the GCC by type number.

Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.

Where JUMO products are used

In Oman and the GCC, JUMO sensors and controllers are used in oil and gas and chemical plants, food and beverage production, plastics and metal heat treatment, HVAC and district cooling, water and wastewater treatment, swimming pools and marine applications.

Ordering JUMO products: what we need

Send the JUMO type number and the full order code from the label (for example 902020/10-...). For probes, add the sensor type (Pt100, Pt1000, type K or J), the number of wires, the insertion length and diameter, and the process connection. For controllers, add the input, outputs and supply voltage.
