Hypertherm Powermax45 SYNC Plasma Cutting System

Description

Portable 45 A plasma with cartridge consumables

The Powermax45 SYNC is Hypertherm’s 45 A air plasma system for hand cutting, mechanized cutting, marking and gouging of conductive metals. It uses a single-piece, colour-coded cartridge in place of separate electrode, swirl ring, nozzle and shield, and the SmartSYNC torch reads the cartridge so the power supply sets amperage and operating mode automatically. Hypertherm rates it at 16 mm (5/8 in) recommended cutting at 500 mm/min and 29 mm (1-1/8 in) severance.

With a torch output of 6.9 kW from 45 A at 155 V, a weight of about 14 kg with a 6.1 m torch and a 6-year power supply warranty, it suits maintenance crews, HVAC and mechanical contractors, fabrication shops and training workshops that need one portable machine for several processes.

Selecting a configuration

Hypertherm sells the Powermax45 SYNC as complete systems with power supply, torch, work cable and one or two cartridges, or as custom configurations built from the power supply part numbers above. Hand systems use the 75° SmartSYNC torch on 6.1 m or 15.2 m leads, or a 75° plus 15° torch pair. For CNC tables, pipe bevellers and robots, choose a power supply with a CPC port and voltage divider (for example 088571 or 088575) and a 180° full-length machine torch; a serial-port version adds RS-485 communication.

Specialty cartridges cover drag cutting, FineCut for thin sheet and marking, flush cutting, and max-control or max-removal gouging. For shop work on a generator, the brochure calls for at least 12.5 kVA to deliver the full 45 A.

Cut quality depends heavily on air quality. Moisture or oil in the compressed air shortens cartridge life and causes arc instability, so a filter or dryer at the machine inlet is worthwhile on site compressors.

Documents and quotation

The Hypertherm Powermax45 SYNC brochure is attached under the documents tab. Other systems are listed under Plasma Cutting Systems, including the smaller Powermax30 XP.

About brand
Plasma cutting is the field Hypertherm has worked in since 1968, from Hanover, New Hampshire, USA. Its systems range from air plasma units carried by hand to mechanized plasma for CNC tables, backed by CNC controls, nesting software and torch consumables. Seven Star LLC lists Hypertherm plasma cutting systems from the Powermax, HPR and XPR families and supplies them to fabricators and maintenance shops in Oman.

Hypertherm plasma families listed here

The number in each Hypertherm model name is its output current class in amperes:
  • Powermax30 XP and Powermax125: air plasma systems, from portable to heavy duty
  • Powermax65 SYNC and Powermax105 SYNC: the SYNC generation of Powermax
  • HPR400XD: HyPerformance mechanized plasma
  • XPR300: X-Definition mechanized plasma
The manufacturer also lists the Powermax45 and 85 SYNC, XPR170 and XPR460, HPR800XD and MAXPRO200, together with Duramax torches, EDGE Connect CNC and ProNest software.

Where Hypertherm systems are used

Hypertherm names heavy equipment, industrial pressure vessels, job shops, steel service centers, shipbuilding and structural steel as its main industries. Powermax units are used for hand cutting and gouging in workshops and on site, and can also be run on a cutting table with a machine torch. HPR and XPR systems are built into CNC machines for production cutting of plate, a common setup in GCC fabrication yards.

Ordering Hypertherm equipment and consumables: what we need

For a system, send the model, the input voltage and phases at your site, the torch type (hand or machine) and the lead length. Hypertherm sells most systems under a configuration part number, so send that number if you have it. For consumables, send the system model, the torch model, the cutting current and the process (cutting, gouging, shielded or fine cut), or simply the part numbers printed on the old parts. For mechanized systems, tell us the make of the cutting table and CNC.
