A 100 A plasma hand torch for inverters without HF starting

The Trafimet EXPRESCUT S105 is an air-cooled plasma cutting torch designed for power sources that ignite the arc without high frequency (NO HF). It is rated at 100 A at 60% duty cycle and 70 A at 100%, uses compressed air at 5 bar and 180 l/min, and the Trafimet technical sheet gives 25 to 30 mm as its cutting thickness. The torch weighs 0.7 kg per metre of cable, which keeps it easy to handle on long cuts.

Non-HF starting avoids the electrical interference that high-frequency ignition can cause to nearby electronics, CNC controls and instruments, which is why many modern inverter plasma units use it.

Matching tips to current

The S105 tips are sized by current: 1.0 mm for 50 A, 1.2 mm for 70 A and 1.4 mm for 100 A. Using the tip that matches the power source setting gives a narrow kerf and square edge; a tip that is too large widens the kerf, and one that is too small wears out quickly. The long electrode and tip combination extends reach into corners and channels, and stand-off guides such as CV0011, CV0012 and CV0021 hold the torch at a steady stand-off for a consistent cut. Spare electrode and tip should be kept as matched pairs, and replaced together when the electrode pit becomes deep or the tip orifice turns oval.

Connection and set-up

Three machine-end versions are available on the same 6 m torch: a direct 1/4 gas fitting, the Central 004 adaptor and the Trafimector 304 central connector. For central adaptor versions the sheet lists the 5-pin adaptor FY0023, torch-side adaptor FY0090, pin extractor EA0254 and the male spring pin kit PT0202. Check the pin assignment of the power source before ordering. Dry, oil-free compressed air at the specified pressure is essential for stable cutting and electrode life. For thicker material and HF-start machines, the 140 A EXPRESCUT A141 is the larger torch in the same family.
