Trafimet EXPRESCUT A141 Plasma Cutting Torch
Description
A 140 A air plasma hand torch for heavy manual cutting
The Trafimet EXPRESCUT A141 is an air-cooled, high-frequency-ignition plasma cutting torch rated at 140 A at 60% duty cycle and 100 A at 100%. It runs on compressed air at 5 bar with a flow of 210 l/min, and the Trafimet sheet gives a cutting thickness of 35 to 40 mm. It is built for plasma power sources in the 100 to 140 A class used in steel fabrication, demolition and maintenance cutting.
The A141 is supplied with a 6 m cable and four machine-end options, so it can be matched to power sources with a direct gas fitting, an M14x1 fitting or a central adaptor.

Choosing tips and consumable sets
Match the tip orifice to the cutting current: running a 140 A tip at low current gives a wide, rough kerf, while overloading a small tip burns the orifice quickly. The sheet groups the parts into standard, contact short, contact long, drag short, drag long and gouging configurations. Long electrodes and tips reach into corners and grooves; stand-off guides from the CV series keep a constant torch height for cleaner edges and longer consumable life. For gouging, the 3.0 mm PD0101-30 tip is listed.
Air quality and connection
Plasma consumable life depends heavily on clean, dry air. Moisture or oil in the supply causes arc instability and rapid electrode wear, so a filter-regulator close to the power source is good practice. Replace the electrode and tip as a pair when cut quality drops. The four machine-end versions share the same torch; the code suffix only changes the gas and control connection. For the central adaptor version, the sheet lists the 5-pin central adaptor FY0023 and pin extractor EA0254.
Before ordering, confirm that the power source supports an HF-ignition torch of this rating and check the pin assignment of its torch socket; the sheet shows the standard Trafimet configuration of the central adaptor pins for trigger, safety, pilot and arc.
Documents and quotation
The Trafimet EXPRESCUT A141 technical sheet is attached under Datasheets & Documents. See our Plasma Cutting Systems category for related equipment.
For a quotation, send the torch code or the power source model and its torch connection, and list the electrodes, tips and nozzles needed, with quantities.
How the EXPRESCUT A141 plasma torch works
The EXPRESCUT A141 is an air-plasma hand torch. Compressed air enters the torch, passes through the diffuser (swirl ring), which gives it a spinning motion, and leaves through the small orifice of the copper tip. A high-frequency spark from the power source first ignites a pilot arc between the electrode and the tip; when the torch is brought close to the work, the arc transfers to the plate and the constricted plasma jet melts and blows out the metal. The same air flow also cools the electrode, tip and torch body, which is why the A141 is rated 140 A at 60% and 100 A at 100% duty cycle with air at 5 bar and 210 l/min.
Cutting modes explained
- Drag cutting: the shielded nozzle rests on the plate; easy for thin and medium sheet at lower currents.
- Stand-off cutting: a spacer or guide holds the torch above the plate; required at higher currents to protect the tip and give a cleaner kerf.
- Gouging: the gouging tip and a shallow torch angle remove weld metal or defects instead of severing the plate.
- Circle cutting: the CV0022 circle cutting guide kit helps cut accurate holes and discs by hand.
Maintenance and safety tips
- Always switch off the power source before changing consumables; HF ignition and open-circuit voltage are dangerous.
- Check the electrode pit depth and the roundness of the tip orifice; replace them together for best results.
- Keep the torch head and threads clean and dry, and check O-rings for damage.
- Protect the 6 m cable from hot metal and sharp edges and avoid running vehicles over it.
- Use a filter-regulator and drain compressor condensate daily to keep air clean and dry.
Typical applications in Oman & the GCC
In Oman and the GCC, a 140 A air-plasma torch is used in steel fabrication shops, shipyards, scrap and demolition yards and maintenance workshops serving oil & gas and industrial plants. Typical jobs include cutting plate and profiles up to the 35–40 mm range given on the sheet, cutting holes in tanks and structures, and gouging out defective welds during repair work.
Cut quality troubleshooting
Heavy bottom dross usually means travel speed is too slow or current too high for the plate; top spatter and a lagging arc mean the torch is moving too fast. An excessive bevel often indicates a worn tip or incorrect stand-off. Correcting air pressure and replacing worn consumables solves most cut-quality problems.
