Brand:

Hypertherm Powermax45 XP Handheld and Mechanized Plasma Cutter, 45 A

Description

A 45 A plasma system for 16 mm cutting, gouging and marking

The Hypertherm Powermax45 XP is a professional-grade inverter plasma system rated to cut 16 mm (5/8 in.) of mild steel at 500 mm/min, with a 22 mm (7/8 in.) cut at 250 mm/min and a hand-cut severance capacity of 29 mm (1-1/8 in.). The recommended hand-held pierce capacity is 12 mm (1/2 in.). It is built for property and plant maintenance, HVAC and mechanical contracting, general fabrication, construction, agricultural equipment repair and similar work.

It works as a hand system or as a mechanized one: a CNC interface and FastConnect torch connection allow machine torches, and optional power supply versions add a CPC port, voltage divider and serial port. Hypertherm describes patented drag-cutting technology, Smart Sense technology that sets the correct gas pressure automatically so the operator does not adjust air pressure, SpringStart technology for consistent starting, and Duramax Lock torches designed for impact and heat resistance. A low-amp process (10 to 25 A) supports marking, scoring and precision gouging.

The brochure lists Duramax Lock 75 degree and 15 degree hand torches and 180 degree machine torches in lengths from 4.5 m to 22.8 m, 7.6 m and 15.2 m work cables, remote pendants and CNC control cables. Drag-cutting hand consumables at 45 A are nozzle 220941, shield 220818, retaining cap 220854, electrode 220842 and swirl ring 220857; FineCut hand parts use nozzle 220930 and shield 220931; max-control gouging at 26 to 45 A uses nozzle 420419 and shield 420480.

The Powermax cartridge platform can be added through a torch adapter (428951 for Duramax and Duramax Lock torches), or Cartridge retrofit torches such as the HRT 75 degree hand torch with a 7.6 m lead, 059920. Cartridges are colour coded by process: 45 A drag cutting 428927, 45 A mechanized 428925, FineCut 428928 and 428926, and max-removal gouging 428932 for 45 to 85 A. Hypertherm notes that SmartSYNC torches are not compatible with the Powermax45 XP.

Ordering and what to confirm before ordering

Standard configurations are listed by voltage: 200-240 V CSA (088112 and 088114 for the standard power supply), 230 V CE/CCC (088130 and 088132) and 400 V CE/CCC (088144 and 088146), with CPC port versions such as 088113, 088131 and 088145. Custom power supplies are 088092 (CSA), 088093 (230 V CE/CCC) and 088094 (400 V CE/CCC). Starter consumable kits are 428559 handheld, 428560 mechanized and 428561 mechanized with ohmic cap.

Confirm the supply (single-phase 230 V or three-phase 400 V CE model, since each is a different power supply), the torch style and lead length, hand or mechanized use, the clean dry air supply, and the generator size. The installation must have time-delay fuses and a line-disconnect switch fitted by a licensed electrician, per the manufacturer. How the Hypertherm Powermax45 XP works

An inverter turns the mains supply into a stable DC output. Compressed gas flows through the torch, and an arc heats it into plasma. The hot plasma jet melts the metal and blows it out of the cut.

About brand

Plasma cutting is the field Hypertherm has worked in since 1968, from Hanover, New Hampshire, USA. Its systems range from air plasma units carried by hand to mechanized plasma for CNC tables, backed by CNC controls, nesting software and torch consumables.

Seven Star LLC lists Hypertherm plasma cutting systems from the Powermax, HPR and XPR families and supplies them to fabricators and maintenance shops in Oman.

Hypertherm plasma families listed here

The number in each Hypertherm model name is its output current class in amperes:

  • Powermax30 XP and Powermax125: air plasma systems, from portable to heavy duty
  • Powermax65 SYNC and Powermax105 SYNC: the SYNC generation of Powermax
  • HPR400XD: HyPerformance mechanized plasma
  • XPR300: X-Definition mechanized plasma

The listing also includes the Powermax45 and 85 SYNC, XPR170 and XPR460. The manufacturer also lists HPR800XD and MAXPRO200, together with Duramax torches, EDGE Connect CNC and ProNest software.

Where Hypertherm systems are used

Hypertherm names heavy equipment, industrial pressure vessels, job shops, steel service centers, shipbuilding and structural steel as its main industries. Powermax units are used for hand cutting and gouging in workshops and on site, and can also be run on a cutting table with a machine torch. HPR and XPR systems are built into CNC machines for production cutting of plate, a common setup in GCC fabrication yards.

Ordering Hypertherm equipment and consumables: what we need

For a system, send the model, the input voltage and phases at your site, the torch type (hand or machine) and the lead length. Hypertherm sells most systems under a configuration part number, so send that number if you have it. For consumables, send the system model, the torch model, the cutting current and the process (cutting, gouging, shielded or fine cut), or simply the part numbers printed on the old parts. For mechanized systems, tell us the make of the cutting table and CNC.
