Hydac OLF 15/30/45/60 Stationary Offline Filter for Large Tanks

Description

Hydac OLF 15/30/45/60 stationary offline filter for large oil volumes

The Hydac OLF 15/30/45/60 is a family of robust stationary offline filters for hydraulic and lubrication systems with large oil volumes. The four numbers are the sizes: each size is a stainless steel housing that holds one, two, three or four N15 Dimicron elements, and the matching motor-pump group delivers 15, 30, 45 or 60 l/min. The filter takes oil from the tank, cleans it through a fine element and returns it, so the main system benefits from continuous fine filtration without extra load on the main circuit. A condition monitoring version (OLFCM) adds sensors and a controller. Seven Star LLC supplies Hydac products in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

Decoding the OLF 15/30/45/60 model code

The data sheet example is OLF – 30/30 – S – N – N15DM002 – E / – PKZ – V – ACD. The first block is the basic type, OLF for the stationary offline filter with dynamic pressure gauge and drain ball valve, or OLFCM for the version with fluid condition monitoring. The second block gives the filter size and the nominal flow, for example 30/30 for a two-element housing with a 30 l/min pump, or 60/Z for a four-element housing with no pump. The third block gives the pump: S vane pump (required for OLFCM), G gear pump, W centrifugal pump or Z without pump.

The voltage code includes L for 115 V single phase, M for 230 V single phase, N for 400 V three phase, R for 415 V, G for 440 V, O for 460 V, B for 480 V, S for 500 V and P for 575 V, with 60 Hz versions marked such as L60. The element block selects N15DM002 (2 µm) through N15DM030 (30 µm) or Z for no element. The clogging indicator block offers a back pressure gauge (E), visual or electric differential pressure indicators and a pressure switch, and supplementary details include FKM seals (V), a motor protection switch (PKZ) and control packages (FA0, FA1, CB, CC). Measurement options are the ContaminationSensor CS1310 or CS1320, AquaSensor and HydacLab combinations.

How the stationary offline filter works

The motor-pump group draws oil through the suction port from the tank, passes it through the elements and sends it back through the return line. Which pump is used depends on the viscosity: the vane pump handles 15 to 500 mm²/s, the gear pump runs up to 1000 mm²/s, and the centrifugal pump is for thin fluids from 1 to 20 mm²/s. The Dimicron elements have high dirt retention, so the interval between changes is long, and spent elements can be disposed of by incineration.

In the OLFCM version, the optional Control Basic (CB) or Connect Cloud (CC) controller reads the CS and AquaSensor and offers two operating modes: continuous operation for long-term system care, and cleaning until a target cleanliness is reached, after which the unit switches off to save energy. The data sheet lists automatic shut-off when the filter clogs, cleanliness indication in ISO, SAE or NAS, water saturation, temperature, dielectric constant, conductivity, a touch panel and a web server with CSV export. CC adds a cloud dashboard.

Where OLF 15/30/45/60 fits in a plant

These units serve large tanks, such as lubrication systems and large hydraulic stations, test benches, pressing and forming plants and thermal power plants (listed in the data sheet). They sit beside the main system rather than inside it, which is why they can be added to an existing plant without changing the circuit. For small tanks, the OLF 5 series and its smaller flow rates are the correct choice, and the CS 1000 sensor can be used to watch results where the OLFCM package is not wanted.

Selection and ordering checklist for OLF 15/30/45/60

  • Tank volume and the number of tank volumes to be cleaned per day, to pick 15, 30, 45 or 60 l/min and the housing size.
  • Fluid viscosity at minimum start-up temperature, to pick vane, gear or centrifugal pump.
  • Voltage, phase and 50/60 Hz supply.
  • Element rating and expected cleanliness code.
  • Basic OLF or OLFCM with monitoring, controller (CB or CC) and sensor package.
  • Seals: NBR or FKM; clogging indicator type; switch gear with motor protection.

Installation and maintenance of the OLF 15/30/45/60

Place the unit near the tank and connect the suction line from a point below the minimum oil level, keeping the suction pressure within the stated limits. Return the filtered oil to the tank away from the suction point. Check rotation direction of three-phase motors on the first start, and vent the housing by running the pump until oil is flowing steadily. Observe the clogging indicator, and change elements when the limit is reached; the number of elements to change depends on the size. Keep a set of elements and seals, as the housing stays in place and only the elements are replaced.

OLF 15/30/45/60 applications in Oman and the GCC

Power stations use large lube oil systems on turbines and pumps, desalination plants use hydraulic stations and gearbox oil systems, and refineries and tank terminals operate large hydraulic and lubrication reservoirs. Fine particles from construction dust and wear are the main contaminant, and in humid coastal sites water ingress is a second risk. The units can be fitted with sensors that report cleanliness and water saturation, which are useful for remote sites checked only on rounds.

About brand

HYDAC is the German hydraulics group known for hydraulic filters, accumulators and electronic pressure and temperature sensors. It was founded in 1963 in Sulzbach, Saarland, by Werner Dieter and Otmar Schön. The name comes from "hydraulic accumulator", the first product it made under licence. It is still a family company headquartered in Sulzbach.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list HYDAC filters, filter elements, accumulators, pressure transmitters and switches, and supply them for hydraulic power units, turbines, compressors and mobile machines in Oman and the GCC.

Most hydraulic failures start with dirty or wet oil. That is why a system has filters at several points: a pressure filter in front of sensitive valves, a return filter that cleans what comes back to the tank, and a breather that stops dust and humidity entering as the oil level moves. The filter element's rating (for example 3, 10 or 25 µm) and its material decide what cleanliness class the oil reaches. On HYDAC sensors, the type code also sets the pressure range, the output and the connector. For example, HDA 4445-A-400-000 is a 4-20 mA transmitter for 0-400 bar.

Where HYDAC products are used

In Oman and the GCC, HYDAC filters, accumulators and sensors are used on turbine and compressor lube oil systems, hydraulic power units, offshore and marine hydraulics, cranes, presses, steel and aluminium plants, and construction and mobile machines.
