Pall Ultipleat High Flow Filter System Housings
Overview
The Pall Ultipleat High Flow Filter System pairs large-diameter Ultipleat High Flow cartridges with purpose-built pressure vessels so that very large liquid flows can be filtered in a compact footprint. Pall states that systems can handle up to 115,443 lpm (30,500 gpm), and that using the 152.4 mm cartridge can mean up to 50 percent smaller filter systems and up to 40 times fewer elements to change out. Each cartridge can pass up to 1900 lpm (500 gpm), and cartridges are available in 508, 1016, 1524 and 2032 mm (20, 40, 60 and 80 inch) lengths.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Pall Ultipleat High Flow Filter System to water, power and process facilities in Oman and the GCC and coordinates the vessel, cartridges and spares as a single package. Our Muscat engineers review the flow rate, fluid, design pressure, vessel metallurgy and layout constraints, then match them to the housing codes in the Pall data sheet, so that the system is sized for the cartridge grade and the allowable pressure drop.
System Operating Principle
In the Pall Ultipleat High Flow Filter System, the process fluid enters the vessel inlet, passes into the open ends of the cartridges seated in a tubesheet, flows from inside to outside through the pleated medium, and leaves through the outlet. A porous grid plate and an element hold-down plate keep the cartridges in place, and the hold-down plate prevents the elements from becoming dislodged in the event of reverse flow. Because all debris remains inside the cartridges, the clean side of the vessel stays clean during element change-out.
For the Pall Ultipleat High Flow Filter System, total differential pressure is the sum of the cartridge and housing contributions. The data sheet gives typical cartridge pressure drop per 100 gpm for each medium and length, and horizontal housing pressure drop curves for the standard sizes, and explains that for fluids other than water the cartridge value is multiplied by the viscosity in centipoise. The maximum differential pressure across the tubesheet is 5.17 bard (75 psid), so correct sizing and a differential pressure gauge are the basis for planning change-outs.
Engineering Design of the Pall Ultipleat High Flow Filter System
Every Pall Ultipleat High Flow Filter System housing is designed to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Division 1. Standard features include a spiral wound 304 stainless steel mineral fibre housing gasket, 1 inch FNPT vents and drains, a corrosion allowance of 1/8 inch, and carbon steel exterior surfaces that are sandblasted and coated with an inorganic zinc. Pressure ratings at 60 degC (140 degF) are 18.95 bar (275 psig) for a carbon steel vessel with a 304 stainless steel tubesheet, 17.85 bar (259 psig) for 304, 14.89 bar (216 psig) for 304L, 17.99 bar (261 psig) for 316 and 14.89 bar (216 psig) for 316L.
The Pall Ultipleat High Flow Filter System is available in three configurations. The in-line horizontal housing removes the need for a platform or ladder to reach the filters; the vertical housing suits limited floor space but may need a platform to remove elements; and the centerpipe design places the lid close to the tubesheet so the cartridges are easily reached, at the cost of a larger and more expensive vessel. Each housing is supplied with a filter element tool that avoids the operator reaching inside the vessel, and horizontal vessels used as a prefilter ahead of a liquid/liquid coalescer can be ordered with upper or lower outlet options so that coalesced liquid does not accumulate in the prefilter.
Key Features
The Pall Ultipleat High Flow Filter System offers the following engineering advantages for large-flow liquid filtration:
- ASME Section VIII Division 1 vessels in carbon steel, 304, 304L, 316 or 316L stainless steel.
- Standard sizes holding 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 12 or 19 cartridges, rated from 1893 to 35,958 lpm (500 to 9500 gpm) with 60 inch elements.
- Horizontal, vertical and centerpipe layouts to match plant space and access constraints.
- Maximum differential pressure across the tubesheet of 5.17 bard (75 psid).
- Inside-to-outside flow with debris retained inside the cartridge.
- Hold-down plate and porous grid plate to retain elements, including during reverse flow.
- Included element tool for safe installation and removal of cartridges.
- Compatible with HDC II, Profile, Ultipor GF and Ultipleat CAS media in 20 to 80 inch lengths.
Industrial Applications
Large flow rates and tight footprints are typical of water treatment and process utilities, and the Pall Ultipleat High Flow Filter System is applied to cooling water, process water, prefiltration ahead of membrane systems, injection and produced water polishing, and chemical and fuel filtration where a single vessel can replace a multi-vessel bag or cartridge array. The horizontal in-line version is attractive on skids and on piperack-adjacent installations because elements can be changed at floor level.
In the Sultanate of Oman the same logic applies at desalination and power plants on the Batinah coast, at refinery and port terminals in Sohar, Duqm and Salalah, and at oil field water systems. Seven Star LLC can quote the Pall Ultipleat High Flow Filter System together with cartridges, and customers can compare it with the Scinor SMT600-P80 pressurized ultrafiltration module, the Spirax Sarco CS10 clean steam separator or the Spirax Sarco CSF16 steam filter when a project needs a different kind of separation or filtration.

Ultipleat High Flow is a large-diameter, coreless pleated cartridge built to carry a high flow per element, so a housing needs far fewer cartridges than a conventional design. The matching Ultipleat High Flow housings are the vessels these cartridges seal into. Profile Coreless elements are depth filters that slide over a reusable metal core, which leaves only the filter media to dispose of at change-out. Medallion elements are coalescers: they merge fine droplets into drops large enough to drain away.Where Pall elements are used
Typical duties are particle removal from amine, glycol, condensate and water streams, black powder and fines removal from gas lines, and liquid removal ahead of compressors and molecular sieve beds.Ordering Pall filter elements: what we need
