Brand:

Donaldson AG1398301 Culinary Steam Manifold DN 50

Description

A ready-to-install two-stage steam filtration manifold, DN 50

The Donaldson Global Steam Manifold AG1398301 is the DN 50 culinary steam version without a stand. It is an all-in-one steam solution with housings, condensate traps, lockable isolation valves and upstream and downstream pressure gauges, supplied ready to install. The sheet says culinary steam is free of entrained contaminants and suitable for direct contact with food products or product contact surfaces.

Two filter stages are fitted. Stage 1 is a 25 um LifeTec P-GSL N element acting as an entrainment separator and stage 2 is either a 5 um P-GSL N or a 1 um P-GS element as a particulate filter. The DN 50 manifold takes one UF 07/30 element in each stage.

Design notes

The sheet lists minimal site assembly, compact design, ergonomic housing height, low differential pressure and high flow capability as the main benefits. Flow characteristic curves are given at 3, 6 and 9 barg for two element configurations: configuration A uses a 25 um then a 5 um P-GSL N element and configuration B uses a 25 um P-GSL N and a 1 um P-GS element.

Purified steam also extends the life of the sterile filters that are sterilized downstream. Select the process version, with PTFE/Fluoraz elastomers, if the steam is not used on food contact surfaces. Check line size, pressure and the element configuration with the process engineer before you order.

Quality assurance testing covers the European framework regulation (EC) 1935/2004, the FDA contact requirements in Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations and an internal surface finish better than Ra 1.6 um. The sheet recommends the associated elements by stage and defers the allowable differential pressure to the element data sheets. Inlet and outlet use DIN flanges and the drains and vents are 1/2 inch BSP, so plan the pipework flanges and the trap discharge before installation. Bottled water, dairy, breweries and wineries are the listed industries.

What is included in the manifold

Donaldson describes its steam manifolds as a ready-to-install solution with filter housings, condensate traps, lockable isolation valves, and upstream and downstream pressure gauges. Mounting stands with levelling feet and housing jackets are available as options. The design aims at minimal site assembly, a compact footprint, short installation downtime and ergonomic housing heights.

Recommended filter elements

The manifold uses two filtration stages. Donaldson recommends a 25 µm LifeTec™ P-GSL N element in stage 1, acting as an entrainment separator, and in stage 2 either a 5 µm P-GSL N element or a 1 µm P-GS element acting as a particulate filter. For the DN 50 manifold, both stages use UF 07/30 size elements, one element per stage.

Operating limits and materials

  • Maximum operating temperature: 150 °C (302 °F) for culinary steam; 180 °C (356 °F) for the process version.
  • Maximum operating pressure: 10.3 barg (150 psig).
  • Product contact surfaces in stainless steel EN 1.4404 (AISI 316L) or EN 1.4301 (AISI 304), internal surface finish Ra below 1.6 µm.
  • Elastomers in EPDM for the culinary version, PTFE/Fluoraz for the process version.
  • DIN flanged inlet and outlet, 1/2 in BSP drains and vents.

Donaldson states that the products meet European Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 and FDA requirements for food contact under 21 CFR. The DN 50 culinary manifold AG1398301 (process version AG1399301) weighs 77 kg without stand and measures about 1091 mm long, 165 mm wide and 1156 mm high. Typical users include bottled water, dairy, brewery and winery plants, where culinary steam is in direct contact with food or product contact surfaces.

Why filter culinary steam

Donaldson explains that process steam is used as an energy source for heating and temperature control, while culinary steam is used for food processing and direct product contact. Boiler steam can carry entrained water droplets, pipe scale and rust particles. Culinary steam must be free of these contaminants to be suitable for direct contact with food products or product contact surfaces. Donaldson adds that improved steam quality increases process efficiency and extends the service life of the downstream filters that are sterilised with the steam. The manifold housings are designed to give a low differential pressure at high flow rates, and the estimated flow characteristics in the datasheet are given for saturated steam at 3, 6 and 9 barg.

About brand

Donaldson is the American filtration company founded in Minnesota in 1915. It started when Frank Donaldson Sr. built an air cleaner for a tractor engine that kept failing in dusty fields. It is now headquartered in Bloomington, Minnesota, and makes filters and filtration systems for engines, hydraulics, compressed air and gases, dust collection and process liquids.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Donaldson compressed air dryers and filters, gas filter housings, activated carbon adsorbers, hydraulic and fuel filtration and dust collectors, and supply them and their replacement elements in Oman and the GCC.

Compressed air quality is set by ISO 8573-1 classes for particles, water and oil. A typical instrument air system uses a coarse filter and a fine coalescing filter before the dryer, an adsorption dryer for a low pressure dew point (for example -40 °C), and a dust filter after it. An activated carbon stage removes oil vapour where the air touches food or is breathed. Heatless dryers use some of the dry air to regenerate the desiccant, while heat-regenerated and zero-purge types save that air on larger systems.

Where Donaldson products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Donaldson filters and dryers are used for instrument and plant air in oil and gas, refining, power and desalination plants, for breathing air, in food and pharmaceutical production, on hydraulic systems and fuel storage, and in cement and bulk handling.
