Donaldson X011297 Hydraulic Filter Cart

Description

A portable off-line hydraulic filter cart with two pressure filters, 10.4 gpm

The Donaldson Filter Cart X011297 is the low-viscosity version of the portable filter cart for off-line (kidney loop) filtration, flushing and fluid transfer. It helps achieve and maintain ISO cleanliness levels in in-plant machinery and hydraulic equipment, filters new fluid, and can be used to remove water with water absorbing elements.

Two HMK05 pressure filters are plumbed in series for coarse then fine particle removal, or for particle and water removal. A suction filter protects the gear pump, and a one horsepower motor drives a pump rated 10.4 gpm (38 lpm). The assembly part number does not include the filters, which are ordered separately.

This page summarises the manufacturer sheet for quick reference. Compare the figures with your drawing, the existing nameplate and the operating conditions of the installation, and tell us anything that differs so the correct variant can be confirmed in writing before any order is placed.

Features

The cart has a rugged frame, foam-filled tires that will not go flat, stainless steel wands, clear braided hoses with an 85 psi working pressure and a hose and wand assembly of 10 ft (3.05 m). Differential pressure indicators show when to change filters, an oil sampling valve monitors cleanliness, an overload protected switch prevents motor overheating and a removable angled drip tray keeps fluid off the floor.

The motor is mounted at the back for better balance, and the fluid does not drip on it when changing filters. Fluid compatibility is mineral-based fluids, water glycols and polyol esters; the cart is not for diesel fuel or gasoline.

Filters and use

The sheet lists Synteq synthetic pressure filters from under 4 micron (P564468) through 6, 11, 23 and 50 micron grades, an Alpha-Web 10 micron option (DBH0949), a water absorbing 10 micron filter (P179075, absorbs 300 ml of water) and 150 micron wire mesh suction filters P550275 and P550276. Choose them for the target ISO cleanliness level.

Indoor use is recommended because rain or snow can cause the electric motor to fail, and failures from misapplication or storage are not covered by the Donaldson warranty. The high-viscosity partner, X011298, uses a 2 gpm pump and four pressure filters.

Deciding whether the X011297 fits the job

The first check is the fluid. This low-viscosity cart is built around a gear pump and filter housings intended for thinner oils, so confirm the viscosity of the fluid at the temperature it will actually be pumped, not only at its nominal grade. Gear oils and heavy hydraulic oils pumped cold can exceed the cart’s limit, in which case the high-viscosity partner is the better tool. Also confirm that the fluid type is on the compatibility list before connecting the cart to a system.

  • Compare the cart flow with the reservoir volume to estimate how long a kidney-loop cleanup will take; larger reservoirs need longer runs to reach a target ISO code.
  • Choose the filter pair according to the goal: a coarser grade upstream and a fine grade downstream for particle cleanup, or a particle filter followed by the water absorbing element where moisture is the problem.
  • Check the cart’s electrical rating against the outlets available where it will work, and arrange a suitable supply or transformer if they differ.
  • Make sure the hose and wand length reaches the reservoir fill and drain points on the machines to be serviced.

Setting up and running the cart

Fit the selected filter elements and the suction filter before first use, and check that all hose connections are tight. Place the suction wand low in the reservoir but clear of the bottom sludge, and the return wand at the far side of the tank so that cleaned oil mixes with the bulk rather than being drawn straight back into the suction. Start the motor, watch for steady flow and check the differential pressure indicators once the oil has circulated.

For fluid transfer, filter new oil from the drum into the machine rather than pouring it in directly, since new oil is often not clean enough for modern hydraulic systems. Take an oil sample from the sampling valve before and after the cleanup run and send it for particle counting, so that the result is measured instead of assumed.

Maintenance and troubleshooting

  • Low or no flow: check the suction wand is submerged, the suction filter is not blocked and the hose has no kinks or air leaks.
  • Indicator shows change required soon after starting: very dirty or cold oil; change the element if needed and continue, or warm the system before filtering.
  • Motor stops: the overload protected switch may have tripped; let the motor cool and check that the fluid viscosity is within limits.
  • Noisy pump: often cavitation from a restricted suction or air entering the suction line.

Drain the drip tray, wipe the wands and cap the hose ends after each use so that the cart itself does not carry dirt from one machine to the next.

Using a filter cart in Oman and GCC operations

Fine airborne sand finds its way into hydraulic reservoirs through breathers, cylinder rod seals and open fill caps, which is why contamination control matters so much on Omani construction equipment, mining machinery, port cranes and plant hydraulics. A filter cart lets maintenance teams clean the oil on a schedule and after any repair that opens the system. Pair it with good desiccant breathers on the reservoirs to slow the return of dirt and moisture.

High oil temperatures in summer reduce viscosity and make filtering easier, but the cart itself should stay in the shade and within its operating temperature range. In humid coastal facilities, water ingress into hydraulic oil is common, and the water absorbing element is the practical response. Since the sheet recommends indoor use, store the cart in a covered workshop rather than in an open yard.

Ordering Donaldson products: what we need

For compressed air and gas equipment send the model code, the flow in m3/h, the operating pressure, the connection size and the required air quality or pressure dew point. For filter elements give the element code printed on the element or housing. For hydraulic filtration, state the oil type, viscosity, flow and target cleanliness code.
