Brand:

Moldex MX-6 6130 High-Attenuation Earmuff, NRR 30 dB

Description

An over-the-head earmuff for high-noise industrial areas

The Moldex MX-6 6130 is an over-the-head earmuff with a cushion-ribbed, overmolded headband and larger ear cushions meant to fit most ears. Of the three MX models it is the one Moldex rates at NRR 30 dB, and together with the cap-mounted MX-7 it has the waffled cup foam that Moldex credits for the higher attenuation. The cups pivot, the wire frame holds its position, and the glossy shell wipes clean.

The product page lists Czech Republic as country of origin, a 5 year shelf life, SAI approval and AS/NZS 1270:2002; the NRR is tested to ANSI S3.19-1974. The headband and cushions are PVC-free.

Choosing between MX-5, MX-6 and MX-7

For a head-worn muff with the highest rating of the three, choose the MX-6. If workers wear a hard hat, the MX-7 cap-mounted version is the Moldex alternative and it has to be fitted to a correctly adjusted helmet: Moldex warns that any contact between helmet suspension and the cup reduces protection. The MX-5 has the lowest NRR and no waffled foam.

Moldex instructs users to replace cushions and foam inserts at least twice a year for hygiene and safety, using the 6135 hygiene kit for the MX-6. Anything that interferes with the cushion seal, such as safety-glasses temples or respirator straps, reduces protection significantly, so check fit with the other PPE worn. Over-protection can be dangerous, since the wearer must still hear warning signals.

Documents and quotation

The attached Moldex data sheet covers MX-5, MX-6 and MX-7 with attenuation tables, instructions and ordering information. Moldex states that earmuffs must be used within a hearing conservation programme that complies with local rules, so confirm that an ANSI S3.19 NRR meets your site standard before ordering. For a quotation give the part number, the quantity and any hygiene kits. Related products: hearing protection and the published 3M Peltor X5A earmuffs.
