Petzl ASAP’SORBER Energy Absorber for ASAP and ASAP LOCK

Description

A compact absorber that lets an ASAP work away from the rope

The Petzl ASAP’SORBER (references L071AB00 and L071AB01) is a compact energy absorber designed for single-person use with an ASAP or ASAP LOCK mobile fall arrester. It lets the worker operate at a distance from the rope so the rope is protected during certain work phases. The absorber uses tear-webbing inside a pouch that opens for inspection and can be replaced, which keeps the webbing protected from abrasion and contaminants. Two lengths give the balance between reduced fall distance and distance from the rope: ASAP’SORBER 20 for limiting potential fall distance and ASAP’SORBER 40 for keeping the rope away to free up work space.

It must only be used with an ASAP or ASAP LOCK to form a fall-arrest system. In a fall the webbing tears progressively to limit the impact force. The 20 and 40 versions are for one user up to 140 kg including equipment and must not be used for rescue; Petzl supplies a separate AXESS absorber for that.

Selection and inspection notes

Decide the length from the working position. The shorter absorber reduces potential fall distance, while the 40 version suits tasks where the worker must stand clear of the rope. The anchor connected to the system must meet EN 795 (12 kN minimum strength), and the clearance below the user has to be verified, because the required clearance changes with the absorber, the rope and the device. Petzl gives a lifespan of 10 years and recommends a detailed inspection by a competent person at least once every 12 months, including a look inside the pouch. If the pouch shows premature wear it can be replaced on its own with the spare pouch L071EC01, so the absorber does not have to be scrapped for pouch damage alone. Confirm the rope type, the connectors and the user weight before ordering.
