Lovato HR301CA230 Miniature Relay 1 C/O 16 A, 230 V AC Coil
Description
Lovato HR301CA230 miniature relay, 1 C/O 16 A, 230 V AC coil
The Lovato HR301CA230 is a miniature plug-in relay from the HR301C series with one changeover contact rated 16 A and a 230 V AC coil. It uses AgSnO2 contacts, has no built-in indication or test actuator, and plugs into a socket for 35 mm DIN rail or screw mounting. Seven Star LLC supplies the HR301CA230 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
In the code, HR301C is the series and contact form (one changeover, 16 A), A the AC coil and 230 the coil voltage. Siblings in the catalogue with 24, 110 or 12 V coils, and the two-contact HR302C, differ in coil and contact form only.

The 16 A rating and the socket limit
The relay contact is rated 16 A, but the socket reduces the continuous current to 10 A, so a design that uses the full 16 A has to solder or terminate directly to the relay, not through the socket. The 4000 VA AC-1 rating applies to resistive loads. Inductive loads such as small contactor coils are covered by the AC-15 figure of 300 VA at 230 V, and DC loads fall off sharply as voltage rises: only 0.1 A at 220 V DC.
AgSnO2 contacts resist welding on lamp and capacitive loads with high inrush, better than standard silver alloys, and the minimum load of 5 V and 100 mA means the relay is not for dry-circuit signal switching.
Where the HR301CA230 fits
Typical use is as an interface relay between a PLC output or control circuit and a load, or for multiplying contacts of a signal. The AC coil of 230 V draws only 0.9 VA, so a Lovato LRD12RD024 relay output can drive several of them. The 3600 per hour cycle limit allows frequent switching for control duty.
HR301CA230 selection and ordering checklist
- Load type and current: AC-1, AC-15 or DC
- Compare load with 10 A socket limit
- Coil voltage 230 V AC and its tolerance
- Need for indicator or test button; this version has neither
- Select a matching socket and retaining clip
- Check ambient temperature against -40 to +70 °C
Installation and maintenance of the HR301CA230
Plug the relay into its socket, tighten socket screws to 0.6 Nm with a PH1 or 4.5 mm blade, and snap the socket on the rail. Fit suppression across the coil if it is switched by a semiconductor output with leakage, because the 20 to 55 percent drop-out band means leakage current can hold the relay in. Replace relays at intervals on heavy-duty circuits since electrical life is far shorter than mechanical life.
Typical HR301CA230 applications in Oman and the GCC
Interface relays are used in every panel: pump start repeaters, alarm repeaters, lighting control, fan interlocks and generator signals. Dust and heat are the enemies; keep sockets clean and tight, as loose terminals are the usual failure. When many relays are mounted together, label each socket with the circuit it serves and keep a few spare relays with the same coil voltage in the panel, because swapping a plug-in relay is the fastest repair on a site where every hour of downtime counts.
Coil suppression and drive circuits for the HR301CA230
An AC coil relay does not generate the large voltage spike that a DC coil does, so a diode is not needed, but a small RC network across the coil is still useful when the relay is driven from a long cable or a triac output. Leakage through a triac or an electronic timer can be enough to keep a 230 V coil above its drop-out level of 20 to 55 percent of the rated voltage, which shows up as a relay that will not release. A bleed resistor across the coil fixes it.
In terms of life, the 50,000 AC-1 operations at full load rise sharply when the load current is lower. Switching a 2 A load can give several hundred thousand operations. Use the relay at well below its rating on circuits that operate many times a day.

Site conditions in Oman for the HR301CA230
Low-voltage switching and protection devices in Oman often sit in motor control centres and outdoor panels where internal temperatures are high for much of the year. When you select the HR301CA230, check its rated values at your real ambient temperature, as stated in the manufacturer documentation, and confirm the coordination with upstream protection and with the motor or load it serves. Short-circuit levels differ from site to site, so verify the breaking capacity required at the point of installation.
Standardising ratings and coil voltages across a project reduces the number of spare part numbers that need to be stocked. Keeping a small stock of the HR301CA230 and recording settings such as trip ranges or ramp times shortens repair work during a breakdown.

Lovato order codes describe the product. On a contactor such as BF0910A230, "BF09" is the frame and rated current (9 A in AC-3), "10" is the built-in auxiliary contact (one normally open), "A" means an AC coil and "230" is the coil voltage. The coil voltage must match the control circuit exactly, so it is the most common detail to check when replacing one. For motors, a soft starter limits the inrush current at start and stop, while a variable speed drive controls the speed continuously and saves energy on pumps and fans that do not need full flow all the time.
Where Lovato products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Lovato components are built into motor control centres, pump and HVAC panels, capacitor banks for power factor correction, generator and ATS panels, and machine control panels for industry, water and buildings.
