Delta AX-500SC00-0S AX-5 Safety CPU Module

Description

Delta AX-500SC00-0S AX-5 safety CPU module

The Delta AX-500SC00-0S is the functional safety controller of the AX-5 series. It is a narrow safety CPU module intended to work with an AX-5 standard controller, so that safety logic runs in a dedicated safety processor while the machine program stays in the standard CPU. Seven Star LLC supplies the AX-500SC00-0S in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

The part number is a single orderable model, not a range. Delta publishes it as the AX-5 Series Safety CPU, model AX-500SC00-0S. Do not substitute it with a standard CPU such as the AX-5 CPU models, because the two modules play different roles.

How the AX-500SC00-0S works

The AX-500SC00-0S executes the safety program in its own processor and exchanges safe data with remote safety I/O over EtherCAT using Fail Safe over EtherCAT (FSoE). It can address up to 64 FSoE slaves and 256 safety I/O points. Because the program capacity is only 256 Byte, the module is meant for compact safety logic such as emergency stop chains, guard monitoring and safe stop requests, not for large general-purpose programs.

Delta states that the safety controller and safety I/O modules can be placed directly to the right of an AX-5 standard controller or of a remote EtherCAT coupler, where the EtherCAT master can be one of the AX series motion controllers. The module is programmed in the same DIADesigner-AX environment as the rest of the AX-5 system, so the safety and standard parts of a machine stay in one project.

Where the AX-500SC00-0S fits in the system

Typical architecture is an AX-5 standard CPU such as AX-516EB0MB1T/P, AX-532EB0MB1T/P or AX-564EB0MB1T/P at the head of the station, the safety CPU immediately to its right, and safety I/O modules or a remote EtherCAT coupler beyond it. The manufacturer also states that the safety controller can cooperate with other Delta safety products, such as safety drives and robots, as well as third-party safety devices, so that safety synchronization works across systems.

Selection and ordering checklist for the AX-500SC00-0S

  • Confirm that the machine uses an AX-5 standard CPU or an EtherCAT coupler as the neighbouring head module.
  • Count safety inputs and outputs and check them against the 256 point limit and the 64 FSoE slave limit.
  • Compare the required safety level of each function (SIL 3 / PL e / Category 4) with your risk assessment.
  • Confirm the DIADesigner-AX version available to your engineers.
  • Order the matching safety I/O modules and terminal accessories in the same enquiry.

Reading the AX-500SC00-0S figures in a safety calculation

Three of the published values are used most often. PFHD of 2.51 E-10 is the probability of dangerous failure per hour that goes into a high-demand or continuous-mode safety function. PFDavg of 2.14 E-5 is the average probability of failure on demand, used for low-demand functions. MTTFd of 99.8 years feeds the ISO 13849-1 calculation together with diagnostic coverage of 99% or more. The module is a Type B subsystem element with hardware fault tolerance of 1, so the remaining devices in the loop (sensors, safety I/O, contactors or drives) must be evaluated separately and added to the result.

Installation, validation and maintenance

The module is only 12 mm wide and weighs 70 g, so panel space is rarely the constraint, but the removable 16-terminal block and the safety wiring deserve a clear labelling scheme. After wiring, perform a documented validation of every safety function: trigger each emergency stop and guard, confirm the safe state, and record the result. Any change to the safety program or the hardware requires re-validation. The proof test interval published by the manufacturer is 20 years or more, but plant procedures may require shorter functional checks.

Keep the safety program and its checksum in the project archive, and keep a spare module of the same part number for critical machines.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

Delta lists industrial robotics, woodworking, printing, packaging and electronics assembly. In Oman and the GCC, the AX-500SC00-0S is relevant to OEM machine builders and plants that add guarding and emergency-stop functions to packaging lines, robot cells and assembly stations. Cabinet cooling and dust control remain important in the regional climate.

About brand

Delta Electronics is a Taiwanese maker of power and automation products, founded in April 1971 by Bruce Cheng with 15 employees in a small factory in Sinjhuang, Taipei County. Its first products were TV deflection coils and electronic components; it later became a leading maker of switching power supplies and added drives, PLCs and HMIs for industrial automation. Delta is headquartered in Neihu, Taipei, and listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.

Seven Star LLC lists the Delta DVP04AD-S2 analog input module and the ESR-48/30D rectifier module, and sources Delta PLC modules and power parts for panel builders and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

Delta PLC families and the DVP slim line

Delta's controller program runs from the DVP series through the modular AS series to the AH series. Inside the DVP series, the slim CPUs (among them DVP-SS2, SA2, SX2, SV2 and SE) take slim expansion modules on their right side. The DVP04AD-S2 is one of these: a four-channel analog input module for voltage or current signals, which the CPU reads with FROM and TO instructions.
