Endress+Hauser Promass X 300 Coriolis Mass Flowmeter
Description
Promass X 300 four-tube Coriolis meter for the largest flow rates
The Endress+Hauser Promass X 300 is the highest-capacity Coriolis flowmeter in the Promass family. A compact four-tube sensor covers nominal diameters DN 300, 350 and 400 (12, 14 and 16 in) with a liquid full-scale range of up to 4 100 t/h, yet it keeps pressure drop low and gives mass-flow accuracy of ±0.10 % of reading, or ±0.05 % with the PremiumCal option. The maker aims it at on- and offshore oil and gas, where a single installation point must meter large quantities with premium accuracy. Seven Star LLC supplies the Promass X 300 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
Promass X 300: sensor, transmitter and what the name decodes to
“Promass X” is the extra-large sensor family, a bent four-tube system. “300” stands for the Proline 300 transmitter with a dual-compartment housing, up to three I/Os, a backlit touch display and WLAN access. The Promass X 300 is a compact device with the transmitter on the sensor, and a remote display is available. Coated aluminium and cast stainless housings are offered. The sensor housing, measuring tubes and flange connections are stainless steel (1.4404 / F316L), and the datasheet describes the whole exterior as 316L-type material.

Working principle and large-line behaviour of the Promass X 300
Four measuring tubes oscillate at resonance, and the Coriolis effect shifts the phase between inlet and outlet pick-ups in step with mass flow. Splitting the stream over four tubes is what keeps pressure drop modest at these flow rates. Density follows the resonance frequency, tube temperature is measured for compensation, and volume flow, corrected volume flow (API-table based) and reference density are calculated. The meter works without inlet or outlet runs, which is valuable where space on a large skid or manifold is limited.
Choosing between the Promass X 300 and neighbouring meters
The Promass X 300 starts where the Promass Q 300 (up to DN 250, 2 400 t/h) ends. If your line is DN 250 or smaller and you need cryogenic or custody-transfer grade, look at the Promass Q 300. For high pressure beyond Class 600, the Promass O 300 reaches PN 250 at DN 80 to 250, and for smaller hygienic or viscous service the Promass I 100 is the model.
The transmitter supports HART, Modbus RS485, EtherNet/IP, PROFIBUS DP, PROFINET and FOUNDATION Fieldbus variants. Functional safety monitoring up to SIL 2, or SIL 3 with a redundant architecture, is possible on the LA option, and approval options exist for hazardous areas, with equipment protection level Ga/Gb (Zone 0 in the measuring tube) on approval codes BA to BD. The meter can be ordered with optional OIML R117 legal metrology testing for liquids other than water, and OIML R137 for gas. Marine approvals are listed.
Selection checklist for the Promass X 300
- Line size and flow: three sizes share the same 4 100 t/h full-scale value, so pick DN to match the pipe and the pressure loss you accept.
- Pressure class: EN or ASME flange rating, confirmed against the pressure-temperature diagram.
- Medium and temperature: up to +180 °C, with density in the 0 to 5 000 kg/m³ range.
- Accuracy: standard or PremiumCal, and extended density calibration if density is a key output.
- Custody transfer or allocation: legal metrology option and national approval.
- Electrical: power supply, outputs, fieldbus, housing, remote display.
- Handling: the sensor weighs 553 to 601 kg, so plan crane access and supports.
- Documentation: weld inspection reports (ISO 23277, ASME B31.3, ASME VIII or NORSOK M-601) can be ordered.
Installing and commissioning the Promass X 300
Fit the sensor with the flow arrow aligned to the pipe, support the line on both sides so the meter does not carry pipe loads, and avoid cavitation, since the no-run installation rule assumes none. Gas velocity in the tubes should stay below half the speed of sound. For a heavy sensor use flange gaskets and bolting to the class specified. Use the Applicator sizing tool to check the pressure drop and measuring error. On start-up verify the zero with a full line and use Heartbeat Technology to record a baseline. A weather protection cover can be ordered for outdoor sites.
Maintenance is limited to periodic verification, diagnostics review and checks of the cable glands and housing covers; there are no wear parts in the flow path.
Promass X 300 applications in Oman and the GCC
Typical roles include crude oil and condensate export and allocation, tank-farm and loading-arm transfer, large product pipelines, large chemical and fuel transfer lines in petrochemical and power sites, and bulk ship-loading. Because of its ability to take 4 100 t/h in a single run, the Promass X 300 can replace banks of smaller meters. Hot, dusty and humid conditions are handled by the IP66/67 transmitter and the –40 to +60 °C ambient rating, and shaded mounting is recommended in direct summer sun.

Where Endress+Hauser instruments are used
In Oman and the GCC, Endress+Hauser instruments are common in oil and gas production and processing, refineries and petrochemicals, desalination and water networks, wastewater treatment, power plants and food and beverage plants. Coriolis meters measure hydrocarbon and chemical flows, electromagnetic meters cover water and wastewater, radar transmitters handle tank and silo level, and Liquiline analysers monitor water quality. Proline 300 and 500 flowmeters include Heartbeat Technology for in-situ verification, which reduces the need to remove a meter for checks.
Ordering Endress+Hauser instruments: what we need
The order code on the nameplate (for example PMP71-1QA1S11RDADU) defines every option: measuring range, process connection, materials, output, approvals and display. Send it with the serial number; Endress+Hauser can retrieve the original configuration from the serial number. For a new instrument add the medium, operating and design pressure and temperature, range, line size or tank geometry, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Modbus) and the hazardous-area approval required. Older models such as Promass 80/83 or Micropilot M are replaced by current Proline or 80 GHz Micropilot devices.
