Endress+Hauser Promass O 300 Coriolis Mass Flowmeter

Description

Promass O 300 high-pressure Coriolis flowmeter in super duplex

The Endress+Hauser Promass O 300 is a Coriolis mass flowmeter made for the highest process pressures in the Promass range. Its bent dual-tube sensor is built from 25Cr super duplex stainless steel (1.4410, UNS S32750) and is rated up to PN 250 or Class 1500, with nominal diameters from DN 80 to DN 250 (3 to 10 in). The maker positions it for offshore and other demanding oil and gas service, and highlights its resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Seven Star LLC supplies the Promass O 300 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

Reading the Promass O 300 name and construction

“Promass O” identifies the sensor: a robust bent dual-tube design for high pressure. “300” is the Proline 300 transmitter, a compact dual-compartment housing with up to three configurable inputs and outputs, a backlit touch display and WLAN access. The Promass O 300 is delivered as a compact device in a coated aluminium or cast stainless housing; a remote display is available. The sensor housing is 316L (1.4404), while the measuring tubes and the process connections are super duplex.

How the Promass O 300 measures

Two parallel tubes are driven in antiphase at resonance. Flowing fluid generates Coriolis forces that twist the tube motion, and sensors at the inlet and outlet detect the resulting phase difference, which is proportional to mass flow. Density is derived from the resonance frequency and temperature from a sensor on the tube. Volume flow, corrected volume flow (including API-table based calculation) and reference density are computed from these values. Heartbeat Technology adds built-in verification of the device.

Fitting the Promass O 300 into the system

The Promass O 300 sits at the heavy end of the family. The Promass I 100 handles small hygienic lines, the Promass Q 300 offers the best accuracy and a cryogenic option up to DN 250, the Promass X 300 covers DN 300 to 400, and the Cubemass C 300 handles micro flows. Choose the Promass O 300 when line pressure exceeds what PN 100 or Class 600 sensors can take.

The Proline 300 transmitter offers HART, Modbus RS485, EtherNet/IP, PROFIBUS DP, PROFINET, FOUNDATION Fieldbus and Ethernet-APL variants, so it can feed a flow computer, a PLC or a DCS. Functional-safety use is possible up to SIL 2 in single-channel and SIL 3 in redundant architectures (order option LA), and certain approval codes give a measuring tube suitable for Zone 0.

Selection and ordering checklist for the Promass O 300

  • Pressure class: confirm the flange standard (EN, ASME or JIS) and rating against the maximum line pressure and temperature curve.
  • Size: choose DN so normal flow falls near 20 to 50 % of full scale; the datasheet suggests not going below about one twentieth of full scale.
  • Accuracy: standard or PremiumCal for mass flow, and the density calibration needed.
  • Fluid and temperature: liquids or gases up to +205 °C, and whether entrained solids require a lower velocity below 1 m/s.
  • Outputs and protocol: up to three I/Os, current, pulse, relay, status or fieldbus.
  • Housing and approvals: aluminium or cast stainless, hazardous area, SIL and marine certificates where needed.
  • Documentation: material and weld test reports such as ISO 23277, ASME B31.3 or NORSOK M-601 are listed as ordering options.

Installing and maintaining the Promass O 300

No straight inlet or outlet runs are required behind valves, elbows or tees provided cavitation is avoided. Mount vertically so the tubes drain and are protected from build-up. Weights are substantial, from 75 kg at DN 80 to 572 kg at DN 250, so plan lifting gear and supports. Zero point stability is listed per size, for example 9 kg/h at DN 80. Commission through the touch display, a web browser over WLAN, or FieldCare and DeviceCare. Keep the transmitter out of direct sun in hot regions, and use the optional weather protection cover when it is mounted outdoors.

Routine care consists of Heartbeat Verification records, reviewing diagnostic messages, checking the cable glands, and keeping the housing cover closed. There are no wearing parts in the sensor.

Where the Promass O 300 is used in Oman and the GCC

High-pressure duties dominate: wellhead and production manifolds, gas-lift and injection lines, offshore platform export, chemical injection skids, and high-pressure test facilities. The super duplex wetted parts are chosen for stress corrosion cracking resistance, which matters on hot, salt-laden Gulf and Omani coastal sites. In power and desalination plants it can serve high-pressure fuel, boiler chemical and seawater-related duties where Coriolis accuracy is wanted.

Where Endress+Hauser instruments are used

In Oman and the GCC, Endress+Hauser instruments are common in oil and gas production and processing, refineries and petrochemicals, desalination and water networks, wastewater treatment, power plants and food and beverage plants. Coriolis meters measure hydrocarbon and chemical flows, electromagnetic meters cover water and wastewater, radar transmitters handle tank and silo level, and Liquiline analysers monitor water quality. Proline 300 and 500 flowmeters include Heartbeat Technology for in-situ verification, which reduces the need to remove a meter for checks.

Ordering Endress+Hauser instruments: what we need

The order code on the nameplate (for example PMP71-1QA1S11RDADU) defines every option: measuring range, process connection, materials, output, approvals and display. Send it with the serial number; Endress+Hauser can retrieve the original configuration from the serial number. For a new instrument add the medium, operating and design pressure and temperature, range, line size or tank geometry, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Modbus) and the hazardous-area approval required. Older models such as Promass 80/83 or Micropilot M are replaced by current Proline or 80 GHz Micropilot devices.
