Endress+Hauser Promass E 300 Coriolis Mass Flowmeter

Description

Promass E 300 Coriolis flowmeter for standard process applications up to DN 80

The Endress+Hauser Promass E 300 is the general-purpose member of the Promass 300 range. It uses a bent dual-tube sensor in 1.4539 (904L) stainless steel, nominal sizes DN 8 to DN 80 (3/8 to 3 in) and full-scale liquid flows from 2,000 up to 180,000 kg/h. The sensor is paired with the Proline 300 transmitter, a compact dual-compartment unit with a touch display, WLAN access and freely configurable I/O. Seven Star LLC supplies the Promass E 300 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

It measures mass flow, density and temperature in one device and calculates volume flow, corrected volume flow, reference density and concentration. Pressure ratings reach PN 100 and Class 600, and the medium temperature range is −40 to +150 °C.

What the Promass E 300 designation tells you

  • Promass E: dual-tube sensor aimed at standard applications where stable, reliable measurement is required without special tube materials.
  • 300: Proline 300 transmitter, with a separate connection compartment, aluminium or hygienic stainless housing, and up to three I/Os.
  • The calibration option for flow (codes A, B, C) improves liquid mass flow accuracy from ±0.15 % to ±0.10 % of reading.

Order codes define size, connection, housing, output and approvals. We confirm the exact code with you before quoting.

How the Promass E 300 works

Two parallel bent tubes are driven in antiphase at their resonance frequency. When fluid passes through, Coriolis forces distort the oscillation, creating a phase shift between inlet and outlet sensors that is proportional to mass flow. The resonance frequency gives density, and a tube temperature sensor provides the compensation signal that is also available as an output. Because the tubes balance each other, the sensor is less sensitive to plant vibration, and the principle does not depend on viscosity, conductivity or flow profile.

The Gas Fraction Handler in the transmitter firmware monitors for disturbances such as entrained gas bubbles and keeps flow and density readings steadier on HART, Modbus RS485, PROFINET and Ethernet-APL versions.

Communication and I/O for the Promass E 300

Communication options listed for the Proline 300 platform include 4-20 mA HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, PROFIBUS PA and DP, Modbus RS485, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, PROFINET over Ethernet-APL and Modbus TCP over Ethernet-APL. Additional I/O modules provide pulse/frequency/switch, relay, current input and status input. Hazardous-area versions use intrinsically safe or Ex d variants of these channels, defined in the order code.

Connections, pressure and approvals for the Promass E 300

Standard connections include EN 1092-1 flanges (PN 40, PN 63, PN 100), ASME B16.5 flanges (Class 150, 300, 600), JIS B2220, DIN 11864-2 flanges, Tri-Clamp, DIN 11851, SMS 1145, ISO 2853 and DIN 11864-1 threads, and 8-VCO-4 and 12-VCO-4 couplings. NAMUR face-to-face lengths to NE 132 are available. For hazardous areas the datasheet states equipment protection level Ga/Gb (Zone 0 in the tube) for the Ex options, with details in the separate safety instructions. Flow monitoring to SIL 2 single-channel or SIL 3 redundant is available with the functional-safety option, and 3-A and EHEDG apply only to specifically ordered versions.

Where the Promass E 300 sits against the other Promass models

The Promass F 200 offers higher accuracy and wider tube choices, the Promass H 300 targets chemically aggressive media with tantalum or zirconium tubes, and the Promass A 300 covers the smallest flows. The Promass E 300 is the economical choice when the fluid is compatible with 904L stainless steel and the accuracy of ±0.15 % (or ±0.10 % calibrated) is sufficient.

Selection checklist for the Promass E 300

  • Fluid compatibility with 904L tubes and 316L connections.
  • Flow range per DN size; choose normal flow at roughly 20 to 50 % of full scale.
  • Medium temperature up to +150 °C and the matching ambient limit.
  • Connection standard and pressure class; NAMUR length if swapping an old meter.
  • Accuracy need: standard or the calibration option.
  • Output, power, zone marking and SIL or hygienic approvals.

Installation and commissioning of the Promass E 300

Select a mounting position that avoids gas collecting in the tubes and keep static pressure high enough to prevent cavitation, for example downstream of pumps. Do not insulate the transmitter housing when lagging a hot line. The meter needs no straight inlet or outlet run. After wiring, use the guided wizards on the display or the web server, perform a zero adjustment with the line full and at rest, and, where fitted, run Heartbeat Verification for a documented in-situ check. Configuration is kept in a plug-in memory for fast electronics replacement.

Typical applications of the Promass E 300 in Oman and the GCC

The Promass E 300 is a common choice for batch and transfer metering of chemicals, fuels and solvents, for loading and blending in terminals, utilities such as water treatment and desalination chemicals, and mass-balance monitoring in petrochemical and power plants. In heat and dust, keep the transmitter shaded where possible and respect the +60 °C ambient limit.

Where Endress+Hauser instruments are used

In Oman and the GCC, Endress+Hauser instruments are common in oil and gas production and processing, refineries and petrochemicals, desalination and water networks, wastewater treatment, power plants and food and beverage plants. Coriolis meters measure hydrocarbon and chemical flows, electromagnetic meters cover water and wastewater, radar transmitters handle tank and silo level, and Liquiline analysers monitor water quality. Proline 300 and 500 flowmeters include Heartbeat Technology for in-situ verification, which reduces the need to remove a meter for checks.

Ordering Endress+Hauser instruments: what we need

The order code on the nameplate (for example PMP71-1QA1S11RDADU) defines every option: measuring range, process connection, materials, output, approvals and display. Send it with the serial number; Endress+Hauser can retrieve the original configuration from the serial number. For a new instrument add the medium, operating and design pressure and temperature, range, line size or tank geometry, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Modbus) and the hazardous-area approval required. Older models such as Promass 80/83 or Micropilot M are replaced by current Proline or 80 GHz Micropilot devices.
