Schneider Electric ATV610D11N4 Altivar 610 Drive 11 kW

Description

ATV610D11N4: Altivar 610 drive for 11 kW pumps, fans and compressors

The Schneider Electric ATV610D11N4 is an Altivar 610 variable speed drive rated 11 kW (15 hp) for normal duty on a 380 to 415 V three-phase supply. It is built for pumps, fans, compressors and conveyors, with an integrated EMC filter, IP20 protection and forced convection cooling, and is intended for mounting inside a cabinet.

The order code can be read as follows: ATV610 is the Altivar 610 drive, D11 stands for the 11 kW rating, and N4 for the 380 to 415 V three-phase supply. Seven Star LLC supplies the ATV610D11N4 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

How the ATV610D11N4 controls a motor

The drive converts the fixed-frequency supply to a variable voltage and frequency output. For asynchronous motors it offers constant torque, optimised torque and variable torque control laws, with automatic slip compensation. Variable torque profiles are the basis of the energy savings seen on centrifugal pumps and fans, because power falls with the cube of speed.

Ramps can be linear, S-shaped, U-shaped or customised, with times between 0.01 and 9000 s, and standstill braking is by DC injection. Sixteen preset speeds and software-configurable analogue inputs, including a temperature probe or water level sensor on AI2 and AI3, allow simple process control without an external controller.

System fit and related Schneider drives

The ATV610D11N4 belongs to the Altivar 610 range of low-voltage AC process drives from Schneider Electric. In the same range the same frame covers neighbouring ratings, so confirm 11 kW and the 380 to 415 V code before ordering. Line-side items such as fuses, contactors and line reactors, and output items such as sine or dv/dt filters for long motor cables, are selected separately according to the installation.

Selection and ordering checklist

  • Motor rating and duty: 11 kW normal duty for pumps and fans, or 7.5 kW if the load is heavy duty.
  • Supply voltage 380 to 415 V and short-circuit level (prospective line Isc 22 kA).
  • Cabinet cooling: the drive dissipates about 310 W at 4 kHz and 380 V.
  • Cable length against the C3 filter limit of 50 m.
  • Required fieldbus: Modbus standard, PROFIBUS DP V1 via option card.
  • Ambient temperature and altitude against the no-derating limits.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance

Mount the drive vertically, within ±10 degrees, with the clearances in the manual, using four screws with captive washers. Keep dust, conductive gases and high humidity away from the enclosure, and remember it is IP20, so the cabinet must provide the protection. Terminals accept 4 to 16 mm² on line and motor side.

On commissioning, enter the motor nameplate data, run auto-tuning, set ramps and the minimum speed for pumps, and check the rotation direction. Routine maintenance is cleaning fans and heat sinks, checking terminal tightness and monitoring fault history.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

The ATV610D11N4 is common on cooling water and chilled water pumps, ventilation fans, cooling tower fans, booster sets and compressors in buildings, water treatment, desalination auxiliaries and light industry. With ambient limits of 45 °C without derating, cabinets in hot outdoor rooms should be air-conditioned or sized with derating in mind, and filters should be kept clear of dust.

Commissioning the ATV610D11N4 on pumps and fans

Start with the motor nameplate data: rated power, voltage, current, frequency and speed, and then run the motor tuning so that the drive models the motor correctly. Set acceleration and deceleration ramps to suit the load; long ramps reduce water hammer in pumping systems and mechanical stress on fan belts and couplings.

For process control, the drive includes functions such as the PID regulator for pressure or flow control, sleep and wake-up for low-demand periods, catch-on-the-fly for fans that are already turning, and skip frequencies to avoid mechanical resonance. The programming manual (EAV64387) describes each function and its parameters.

In Oman and the GCC, cabinet temperature is often the limiting factor. Check the derating curves in the installation manual when the air inside the panel can exceed the drive rated ambient, size the cabinet ventilation or cooling accordingly, keep the heatsink and fan clear of dust, and respect the motor cable length limits for the integrated EMC filter.

About brand

Schneider Electric is the French group for energy management and industrial automation: low and medium voltage switchgear and circuit breakers, motor control, drives, PLCs, power monitoring, UPS systems and building management. Its history goes back to 1836, when the brothers Adolphe and Eugène Schneider took over the iron and steel works at Le Creusot in Burgundy. Over the 20th century the company left steel and heavy engineering and became an electrical group through acquisitions such as Merlin Gerin, Télémécanique, Square D and Modicon. Its head office is in Rueil-Malmaison near Paris, and its shares are listed on Euronext Paris.

Milestones

  • 1836: The Schneider brothers acquire the Le Creusot works; the business grows in steel, locomotives and heavy engineering.
  • 1975: First investment in Merlin Gerin, a French maker of electrical distribution equipment.
  • 1988–1992: Télémécanique, Square D (USA) and Merlin Gerin join the group, making it an electrical specialist.
  • 1997: Modicon, the company behind the first programmable logic controller, joins the group.
  • 1999: The group takes the name Schneider Electric.
  • 2007 and 2014: APC (UPS and data centre power) and Invensys (process automation) are acquired.

Choosing Schneider Electric breakers and motor control

Circuit breakers are chosen by current and breaking capacity. Acti9 miniature circuit breakers (iC60, C120) protect final circuits up to 125 A. ComPacT NSX molded case breakers cover about 16 to 630 A, and the letter after the frame size sets the breaking capacity: B, F, N, H, S, L from lowest to highest. MasterPacT air circuit breakers are used as main incomers on large switchboards. For motors, a TeSys contactor with an LRD overload relay or a GV2 motor circuit breaker suits direct starting, an Altistart soft starter reduces starting current, and an Altivar drive controls speed. The breaking capacity must always be at least the prospective short-circuit current at the point of installation.

Where Schneider Electric products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Schneider Electric equipment is found in main and sub-main switchboards of commercial and residential buildings, motor control centres in water, oil and gas and industrial plants, substations protected by Sepam and Easergy relays, data centres powered by Galaxy and APC UPS systems, and buildings controlled by EcoStruxure Building Operation.

APC by Schneider Electric: UPS and critical power

Since 2007, APC has been part of Schneider Electric and is now its product brand for uninterruptible power supplies, replacement batteries, battery packs, network management cards and rack power distribution. Our APC catalogue covers Smart-UPS line-interactive and on-line models, Easy UPS On-Line, the modular Symmetra LX, RM and PX ranges, Silcon three-phase systems and their spare part kits, and the RBC cartridges that keep them running. Schneider Electric breakers, drives and PLCs can be quoted together with APC UPS systems in one request.
